The Indian Railways has started final location survey along a 498 kms long Bilaspur-Manali-Leh line. This will be the highest railway line in the world if completed. Set to come up at a height of 3,300 meters, this railway line will be higher than the China Qinghai-Tibet Railway which to date is the highest.
With final location survey inaugurated by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, the work on this much awaited railway line commences. It will start at Bilaspur and will connect destinations such as Leh, Sunder Nagar Mandi, Manali, Tandi, Keylong, Koksar, Darcha, Upshi and Karu. The budget to carry out the survey is at an estimate of INR 157.77 crores, all of which is being funded by the Defence Ministry.

a railway PSU, is entrusted with the task of taking on this challenge which is expected to be completed b y 2019. As on date, the road along this stretch is open for only 5 months in the year. The new railway line, once commissioned, will prove to be a more convenient mode of transport for a lot of reasons.
It will bring about socio-economic benefits to the region and enhance tourism. Besides this new rail route, the Defence Ministry has also initiated rail lines along China, Nepal and Pakistan borders as strategic lines.
The images you see in the post, are from the Jammu–Baramulla line. This was one of the most difficult projects ever to be completed by Indian Railways. The Leh line will be an even tougher task. It is not clear as to what will be the cost to construct a railway line to Leh, but estimates put the figure in the region of INR 30,000 crore or more. More details will be revealed once the official survey is completed in 2019.

Even survey of the track shall cost 158Crore Rs, which could be conducted just because of 100% funding by MoD. Construction shall be possible only if it is declared a national project with top priority.
As a railway project, it may be a financial disaster. But for the economy of the isolated and backward Leh region, it will be no less than a boon. The virgin Leh territory may become most coveted summer destination pushing back terror inflicted Kashmir valley to no.2.

Railways should consider it operations in these regions as CSR, and release something like "CSR certificates" (kind of like PSL certificates) and let those companies purchase them which have CSR obligation, but fail to fulfil them due to various reason. that would, surely, eliminate some of the financial shortfall.

* Normal funding is not possible for such a gigantic project which is projected to cost about 30000/- crore Rs at this stage. Actual completion shall be much higher.
* The prime reason for the implementation of this project is its strategic importance.
* Central Govt is very alert and serious towards national defence/security and is willing to take quick actions and spend huge funds for the same. Practically, as far as implementation of this project is concerned, much depends on how the Pak-Terrorist-China nexus take turn in future.

I was talking about operation phase i.e. once the train starts operating
For construction, even i agree MoD should pool in for such projects.

*News appears biased and aimed at tainting the IRlys, instead of appreciating the great effort by RM/IR to help onboard paxs through twitter handle, the report squarely blames the RM.
*All the twitter requests are entertained irrespective of the train in which paxs is travelling or the class of ticket of the paxs. Poor people are not in a position to tweet and Blaming RM for poor people not having twitter account/ smartphone is also not justified.
* Even illiterate & poor persons can take help of educated co-paxs to tweet,

and if the poor is not smart enough, then too RM is not to be blamed. Blaming RM for twitter halp is height of negative/baised journalism.
* Provision of a milk is very easy as it can be supplied from canteen/ tea stall located at station and providing advanced (surgical/trauma/ICU/OperationTheater facilities, Doctors, Nurses, Specialists etc) medical facility for seriously injury is very difficult not always possible. The comparision is funny
* Media should propose the solutions to help the needy and try to help in implementation, rather than just accusing the govt. or system . Proper system should be developed and enforced at national/zonal/divisional/station level to help the injured persons at stations with relevant contact numbers, addresses of nearby doctors/ hospitals etc., so that injured get proper medical help at the earliest.

The Hindu tries to propose solutions, but its gets branded as anti-national and leftist, commie sponsored newspaper.
The problem lies somewhere else, not with newspapers.
There is only so much the "PR machinery" can do, and when RM and his cronies try to cover their haphazard running of railways by routinely promoting their "twitter achievements" someone is bound to object. In fact, be glad that there are few newspapers and editors/Journalists who haven't prostrated in front of ruling government and try to focus on the gaping flaws in administration rather than gloss over

The twitter redressal system was very innovative step when introduced a couple of years back. But it is time for Indian Railway to stop milking that cow and find permanent solutions instead. Apathy of GRP as stated, along the lines that "take the corpse home and perform the funeral" is an exact example of what Mr Prabhu has been unable to change in his system and thus how he has failed to bring change in the mindset of his officials. Other questions raised by the newspaper are quite valid. No postmortem of dead body, no ticket found with the passenger, referring of a severely bleeding patient to another hospital despite of available treatment, etc. While comparison with provision of milk might seem funny, but it does not hide negligence of Railways.

is wrong to say that the leader at the apex level should not be blamed if officials in the grass root level show poor ethics. No change will be possible, irrespective of how much innovative and honest the leader is, if his officials keep working with "chalta hai" attitude.

If the works are probably going on for electrifications,we can see some electrifications work in coming months like Poles being installed and Wiring being done. The work along side from Tiruchirappalli to Karaikkal, the work is also from Nidamanglam to Mannargudi and Mayilladuthurai-TVR and connected line to VLNK. so the only left main route for electrification is Dharmapuri to Bangalore I hope it gets sanctioned soon.

Last Year's trip in August, the most powerful in terms of the trains I took, all RF.(12723-12049-12002-12650)
Disclaimer: If you are a Grammer or English Nazi, please bear with this because I am not proficient in language.
Beginning:
The Plan started in summers when Railfans from Mumbai and I planned to take a ride in newly introduced Gatimaan express, the only problem being that
...
I couldn't join with them from Mumbai as i had limited vacations at my disposal, so i planned a speedy one, starting with Telangana express on Day 1 Gatimaan Express on day 2, Bhopal Shatabdi and KSK on day 3, visiting Taj and taking some souvenirs for friends as well and an RF session at High speed section of Agra and Mathura, so booked the tickets and took rf permissions for Runkuta, a great and calm High speed location just after BFP.
So after all the beginning lets come to the trip part, took an early bus to Secunderabad to find that Railfan and well known IRIan and brother Abhishek travelling to Delhi in the same train :) so had a call with him and found that he got confirmation on charting in 3AC lower, known for being lucky in terms of train accomodation :p. I was quite lucky to have a company on this lone part of my trip.
There was a lot of crowd and usual hustle bustle at the station before the arrival, the best part that i heard about Telangana was its Pantry and there was no surprise the platform had fragrance of cooked food from Secunderabad Base Kitchen for it, they waited for train at the board where it was being displayed "PC", i searched for B2 and waited there as LGD's 30289 arrived with 12723 Telangana express with announcements in all 3 languages being carried out for the same, finally i met AJ on the door of coach we met and had a short chat when WAP-7 tooted, I went to my coach to get my tickets checked, and to try the breakfast, the train departed 15 minutes behind schedule from Secunderabad and crawled all the way upto CHZ owing to cautions, after a delicious plate of Masala Wada and Upma(combined), got the tickets checked i saw my train tearing Ghatkesar before going to another series of Permanent cautions till Aler and then went to AJ's coach through vestibule. The train was sparsely crowded, reached his coach,we had a long chat and in no time we saw ourselves in Kazipet 3 minutes behind schedule, departed ontime after a minute halt. At Kazipet outer both of us held the door and saw ourselves parallely departing with Krishna express that curved towards Warangal as we did towards Ballarshah, after crossing the lake we did saw the lake and came inside the coach, occasionally till RDM we were having a speedy run and came thrice at door, went to check my seat to find no one there. Ordered food near SKZR and got the food at Ballarshah finding ourselves reaching 15 minutes ahead of schedule, the monsoon was at its peak and the scenary outside was beautiful, the usually hot BPQ had cool breeze blowing, we departed just ahead of 22691 arrival.
Had our food while having an extra halt at Chandrapur, thought we would be overtaken here but we departed after a 10 minute halt. After Chandrapur, the WAP-7 mercilessly ripped till HGT where we halted after passing a long caution, we got overtaken by SBC raj and after a halt of 15 minutes we departed for another speedy run, the run in CR was exceptional and violent at the same time owing to jumpy PWAY. We both came to door witnessing the huge 90 degree sewagram curve, skipping that we had a speedy run till Nagpur and arrived 2 minutes ahead of schedule, we both had a glass of orange juice and departed on time after a massive jolt by Nagpur crew towards Itarsi, i fell asleep for this part...
To be continued.

Fire:
The next part is here, sorry for the long wait.
So after bidding a final bye to my friends, went to Platform Number 1 of NDLS to do a railfan inspection of 12002 New Delhi Habibganj Bhopal Shatabdi express, the train in which i longed to travel since years, mine was a 99 made LHB coach, an imported one. Got to my seat Center Table-Window-Non track side-Forward, And we got starter and departure both on time, this time Lucknow Shatabdi was nowhere to be seen.

before Nizamuddin when train was at 100 i saw fire outside the window from just behind my seat and the train came to a screeching halt, due to vigilance of C&W staff onboard and guard, the Fire extinguishers were arranged and fire was put out, reason being a brake jam, the shoe was released and Train started after a 20 minute halt, crossed Nizamuddin at barely 50kmph and after okhla WAP5 suddenly was charged up, after asaoti we started hitting 150 but as soon as we were to cross Rundhi, the train halted, we started again this time although there was no halt before Mathura and we had maddening 150 speed show, WAP-5 had put on the relentless 150 show after Mathura too and we actually covered 5 minutes, by this time we had overtaken 3 trains and 5 freights, After Agra the start was aggressive but soon at Hetampur we were halted due to low clearance and retained the same delay till Gwalior.
After Gwalior the route got exotic, bit of ghat section and Datia Hills, double S Curves and Jhansi fort, the section where we ran like beast and covered 5 minutes with delay down to 15 minutes. From Jhansi i thought the train started running in SCR as we did 2 Loop overtakes, but the speed show was good, delay again increased, and when we crossed Bina from loop we were 30 minutes late, but crisp clearance in WCR ensured that we were 22 minutes late at Bhopal. Met Abhishek here, did some RF and waited for KSK.
Never expected the crowd for KSK at Bhopal to be that much..
To be continued.
