NEW DELHI: The Home Ministry today decided to set up an expert committee to suggest steps for strengthening security of railway tracks and other assets.
The decision was taken at a meeting convened by Home Minister Rajnath Singh and attended by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, among others.
“The Home minister (has) decided to constitute an expert committee to suggest measures to strengthen safety and security of railway tracks and property,” a spokesperson for the ministry said.
The

meeting was attended by Ministers of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi, Intelligence Bureau chief Rajiv Jain, special secretary internal security and senior railway ministry officials.
“A fruitful coordination meeting to improve security of Indian railways and for better protection of railway assets including rail tracks,” Rijiju tweeted after the meeting.
The Home Ministry spokesperson said Singh and Prabhu discussed the recent incidents of railway accidents.
The government has decided to buy hi-tech surveillance equipment for security of 200 railway stations. After a spate of incidents involving train derailment with conspiracy and sabotage angle emerging, there have been series of meetings within the Railways where Centre asked advisory to state police to beef up security around railway stations and tracks.
Earlier Prabhu had written to Singh seeking a detailed probe by the National Investigating Agency (NIA) into at least six incidents where accidents took place or an effort was made to cause an accident.
Following his letter, the Home Ministry handed over to the NIA the probe into three cases.
These cases include the recovery of an improvised explosive device (IED) at railway track in Ghorasahan in Bihar on October 1 last year and the incidents of derailment at Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh and Kuneru in Andhra Pradesh.

A humble request to all the people on IRI.
First of all please note that I am not at all bashing any zone, state, city or any member. Please have a open mindset and a fair judgement towards this post as there is nothing offensive that should be reported but just an honest opinion.
Over the last few months the only topic that people discuss on the Forum and Poll is of GKP, Bihar, ECR & NCR if any one posts any of the above related things in the forum it is then
...
followed by some useless and repetitive comments. Every time people are posting the same thing again and again in a different way which is again followed by the same old repetitive discussion, whereas if someone posts pictures, videos or information apart from these zone, state or city there is no response at all.
Because of all this IRI has become boring because every other post is related to the same old repetitive topics. There are zones, state and cities apart from these to discuss about there are many other trains that deserve the limelight.
I am not completely against it but the only thing I want is that things should be in limit as excess of any thing is not good.

We are not MPs/MLAs/Elected representatives of our state/City, but are rail fans who should think about betterment/ improvement of Indian Railways/ Nation as a whole.
There is always a human tendency to favour ones City/ State/ Zone, but we need to control the emotions. Paaji control yaar!!

Today (07:58)   Good response to Hassan-Yeshwantpur train

rdb*^   127193 news posts
Entry# 2213435   News Entry# 297858         Tags   Past Edits
The Hassan-Yeshwantpur intercity express train, on its first regular service on Monday, saw a good response. The train was almost packed and the departure was delayed by 15 minutes as the railway staff had difficulty in handling the crowd at the ticket counter.
This train was first announced in 1996 when H.D. Deve Gowda was Prime Minister.
Everyday, hundreds of people travel to Bengaluru from Hassan. Considering the number of passengers, the Hassan division of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) had introduced non-stop buses at every half-an-hour in the mornings. With the

introduction of the train services, the KSRTC buses saw a poor response on the first day.
The officials of the corporation are studying the impact of the train services on the bus service.
Naveen Kumar, a resident of Hassan, “We are glad that now Hassan is connected to Bengaluru through a railway line. And, the timing of the intercity train is apt. Many people can travel by the morning train and return by evening. We have been waiting for this service for two decades,” he said.
The passengers had difficulty in getting tickets as only two counters were open on the day. The timing of the inter-city express train clashes with that of the Arsikere-Mysuru train. “As passengers of two trains have to wait in queue for tickets, it is difficult to manage the staff. The officers should open more counters and increase the number of ticket vending machines,” said Prakash, also a passenger.
The train journey to the State capital in the superfast express costs Rs. 85 and would be Rs. 100 in case of reservation.
“The bus fare is Rs. 192 (Rs. 200 for non-stop buses). The train journey works out cheaper than the bus and takes a lesser amount of time. The KSRTC will definitely see the impact on its revenue with the introduction of this train,” opined Prashanth, another passenger.

now this train is cheaper and comfortable than buses right. Even if u take avg speed 30 min. It can reach easily in 3 hr 15 min. Also another passenger going to run in this route from tomorrow which takes 3 hr 30 min which is much cheaper than bus.
For senior citizen this train costs 65 and 75 rs in 2S which is much cheaper to buses.

The problems of this train is that it is a smaller rake, just 14 coaches. Compared to other ICEs which run full with more than 20 coaches of which only 5-6 coaches are reserved.
But one advantage is that the 8 coaches are DD, which helps people to be seated on luggage rack too. The other ICEs operated by MYS division have UR coaches - chair car type (with LCD TVs :)), so just 6 in a row can sit and very less standing space in the aisle and no one can sit on luggage rack.

The TT seems difficult to be implemented. NMGA-SBGA the track was tested by CRS and looks fit for the high speed run. But the older earlier inaugurated sections like HAS-SBGA and NMGA-BAW looks sort of difficult to maintain the given speed. Especially NMGA-BAW which the passenger earlier struggled and now ICE, I saw was going slowly as though some limit has been set, 63 unlikely.

KSRTC buses would be hit but, still will run with good capacity especially non-stop ones which does the stretch upto YPR in 3.5Hrs. Many will opt for it considering many will need to get down at intermediate stops like 8th mile, Jalahalli cross to go to work in nearby Peenya Industrial area. And one gets an assured seat, instead of struggle in UR, if reservation is full.

Good to see that the response from Railway Commuters for the newly introduced Hassan Yeshvantpur Inter city (by the shortest route, compared to other two routes i.e., via Arsikere and via Mysore) has been overwhelming. In the coming days, more people will opt for rail travel as it is both cheap and less time consuming. Hassan Station should gear up to meet this demand.
