Rail Budget 2011 promises extension of Bangalore Mangalore Day(tri-weekly) Express/6515⇒16515 train to Karwar. Welcome news for the towns along the coastal Karnataka providing much needed connectivity to the state capital Bangalore. Hope the train will stop at major stations along the extended route and runs daily in due course.
Route of the proposed new train namely Vasco-Vailankani Weekly express is not mentioned in the budget. Better if it takes the route via Konkan Railway through Mangalore for the benefit of the towns of coastal Karnataka. Incidentally Vailankani has no rail line/station, the nearest station is Nagapattinam (about 10km) on the Nagore-Thanjavur route. Possibly 'Vailankanni'- being a well known shrine close-by is the part of the train name.

As a suggestion I would prefer if this train runs from Vasco to mangalore and then travel via Bantwal, subramanya, sakleshpur , hassan, yesvantpur , salem, erode, trichy and then Velankanni .
In this way it will add one more train to Mangalore and coastal Karnataka. and this train should pass on the bangalore- mangalore route on Sundays as there is no day train on Sunday.
There are so many trains between Mangalore to Shorannur already.

I have already discussed that in many other posts. See my posts in /blog/post/115003 Running via Sakleshpur will cost the railways more. So it will run via SRR despite already many trains from MAJN to SRR. (Can't forget Parshuram when it comes to travelling b/w MAJN and SRR.)

Thanks for the reply.. however I would like to mention that there are so many trains that pass through the Braganza Ghats which is similar to this route which also incurs high cost ...adding one more train to this route shouldn't really matter a lot to the Railways in terms of cost and of course its there duty to take safe precautions with environmental hazards due to Western ghats. and its really foolish that the day train is not operational on Sundays where in they can make good business outta it :(

You see, the Karnataka state govt. is requesting people to use this train so that it can be made daily. But still, IR should take the risk of operating it on Sundays. Sunday will generate huge business. I am also in support of diverting trains via Sakleshpur instead of Shoranur. Mangalore has only two outlets, either Shoranur or Madgaon. They are insufficient. Both are time consuming. If the speed is slightly increased on the Sakleshpur, then MAJN to MAS will be much less time that what West Coast takes. The same goes with Howrah train. If it runs via AK - RRB - JRU - GTL - GNT - VSKP - HWH, It will be a nice connectivity of Central Karnataka to rest of India. HYB train can run via SBC, GTL with lesser quota for SBC.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
