Recently, I booked a reservation ticket (SL class) from Thanjavur to Chennai in Uzhavan exp. with boarding at Kumbakonam (next station). But I boared at Thanjavur itself and travelled in the same train in SL class. I was objected by TTE and asked to pay fine for the journey from Thanjavur to Kumbakonam. I did't pay fine and argued that my ticket is valid from Thanjavur and I paid the cost.
Am I correct or not?

Thats absolutely false once you changed your BP you have to board from BP only not the booking point. If you want to travel from booking point need to purchase separate ticket.

If I cannot claim my berth, then can I travel by standing in the journey. Even that is not allowed, What is the advantage of booking a ticket from one location and boarding at next location? The option itself can be removed by Railway

No you are considered ticket less once you changed BP if try to travel in reserved coach from your booking point and liable for penalty as per rule....You need buy separate ticket or buy UR ticket and travel in Gen compartment.

in older times it was permitted on mutual understanding from TTE and passenger...nowadays its not permitted as when squad or some catches u , it becomes ticketless journey till the specified BP..i used to book from aluva to Tanjore and some times board at ERS itself...but with mutual understanding with TTE's as they know me as i am regular in that train..but anyway its against the law but permitted on frndly grounds..:)

It helps people to avail GNWL quota by paying the extra fare when seats are not avl from an intermediate location. Of course you can argue by saying that those seats are meant for end to end pax, but its a personal opinion.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
