After the successful completion of 160 KMPH Semi - High Speed Trial run between New Delhi and Agra termed as "Indian Semi Bullet Train", the Indian Railway board have stepped up efforts to upgrade track speeds across the country.
A lone Royapuram WAP-7 30331 locomotive was assigned duties of carrying out a speed trial test between Chennai and Gudur for the first time today. The locomotive clocked speeds of around 140kmph in its run.
It remains to be seen whether if this is the first of many high speed trial runs on...
more... this stretch. The Chennai-Vijayawada line has been crying out for upgradation of track speed for ages! But nothing has materialised till date. Indian Railways and the new Indian Government are in favour of introducing Bullet trains. They seem very keen on implementing the project as early as possible in India.
Hopefully this is a step in the right direction.
