I think you are asking for End to End train journey,
Here are options:
1.Board 19263/19269 from Rajkot to Delhi.It departs at 1933 and reaches at delhi by night next day.19263 ends at DEE at 1935 and 19269 at Old Delhi junction at 20.00 .If you use 19263 you will have to transfer to Old Delhi Jn by metro and board the connecting train to Kalka 12311 Kalka mail at 21.25 .You reach Kalka at 04:30 .From Kalka,book in Shivalik Express to Shimla which departs at 0530 and reaches shimla by 10am.I think...

Book 2 tickets in advance.
1. RJT-Umb, 2. Klk-Sml
Take Sarvodya/Sindhu Exp from Rajkot to Umb.
Alight at Umb and take Himalayan Queen 14095 from there to Klk.
No need to book ticket for...

it, daily ICE (Inter City Express) type of train gets half-empty after Umb. A gen ticket will also do for 1 hr journey to KLK.
Now after alighting at Klk a NG (narrow Gauge) train also known as Himalayan Queen will be waiting for you for the onward journey of Simla for which the tickets you have already booked.
Summary
RJT to Umb - Sarvodya or Sindhu
Umb-Klk - Himalayan Queen
Klk-Sml - Himalayan Queen

PS: Remember KLK-Sml Himalayan Queen is a link to the Dee-KLK Himalayan Queen, so the NG Himalayan Queen will not depart from Klk until n unless 14095 Himalayan Queen will not reach KLK. So even if its gets late, the connectiing HQ will also start with delay.

Tickets in Sarvodaya or Sindhu are already in WL,Due to lack of trains it is really hard to reach Delhi from Rajkot directly whereas there are a lot of options in Delhi-Kalka-Shimla Route.

Don't know when does he plans to go, But WL's is only below 10 or in RAC's as i see it, and in this train WL's of 70-100 also clears easily, so that shouldn't be an issue.
