Dear RailYatris - Traveling to/from Lucknow via Kakori today? You are indeed traveling on a very very special day today. You will be going the same tracks where exactly 90 yrs back today - the famous Kakori Train Robbery was carried out by the greats - Ramprasad Bismil, Ashfaulla Khan, Roshan Singh, Rajendra Lahiri and Chandrashekhar Azad. ‪#‎Salute‬

train robbery at Kakori took place today which shook the nation. Ramprasad Bismil, Ashfaulla Khan, Roshan Singh, Rajendra Lahiri and Chandrashekhar Azad, held up the 8-Down Mail at a small station called as Kakori just outside Lucknow and escaped with the railway treasury. They looted the money bags containing an amount of Rs 8000. In this chaos, one passenger was killed by accident - thus making this robbery as a murder case too.
The Government quickly cracked down on all the revolutionaries and all of them except Chandrasekhar Azad were captured. Four were hanged and twenty one young men were sentenced to jail in the conspiracy case.
