My chauffeur on the 15 km long journey to Panval Viaduct was Auto Pilot Irshad who in turn was referred by his colleague Raju. Incidentally Raju had ferried Admins Pramodh & MSN when they visited this place early last month. Grateful to PK for the reference as he even telephoned Raju to take good care of me while I am here. However Raju could not accompany me as he was performing Ganapathi Puja at his home which is just 3 kms before the site. As he was busy shopping for the Puja, he instructed Irshad to take me to his house on the way to the viaduct, to have a darshan of Ganpati Bappa.
I agreed and went to Raju's house...
more... with quarter kilo MODAK which is Lord Ganesha's favourite sweet. Irshad & I were greeted by Raju's wife and 7-year old son who was asked by his mom to do a Shashtang Pranam to me as a mark of respect. I was very touched by this gesture. The lady insisted on my having breakfast or tiffin as she called it. And although I had had a sumptuous breakfast at my hotel, I obliged her by taking the sabudana khichdi, banana and tea that she gave me. To me this was the highpoint of my visit to Ratnagiri, in fact, as memorable as seeing the viaduct. It was an honour I can never forget and I am indebted to PK for facilitating it. Here is a pic of Ganapathi Bappa worshipped at auto pilot Raju's home.
