Amritsar is most popular as the home to the most famous Sikh shrine, the Golden Temple (In Local Language Its Darbaar Sahib). The holy city also houses other important religious sites like Akal Takht, Ram Tirth are a few one must visit.
Places of historical importance too can be found in Amritsar. Jallianwala Bagh, Central Sikh Museum and Wagah Border are some places one must not miss in Amritsar.
Now Individual people can have there own itinerary, but i would still provide the best one to cover all these places in Just 1

singe day.
Arrive Amritsar by the nightfall and prebook a Retiring Room online. Fresh up yourself and go for walk to Hall bazaar (Ghanta ghar) for a evening shopping and Masti. Its just on the Opposite side (i.e its towards the Pf 5 direction). Come outside on Pf 1 side (Its GT Road) and move towards the Road overbridge to cross the station and as you come down you will reach Ghant Ghar gate and Hall gate.
Next morning at about 8 am , check out from Retiring room and deposit your luggage in cloak room. Take a auto from GT road (Many shared auto also present) and go to Jaliianwala bagh. Feel the Pains and struggle that our forefathers suffered by Britishers. After that at about 10 am come outside , eat something (seriously do eat or else you will suffer after sometime). Then start walking towards Darbaar sahib. If in doubt ask anyone, they will guide you the correct road. Its hardly 300 m straight road away from Jallianwala bagh. Now deposit your shoes and go inside. The main golden temple is in centre of a sacred saravor/lake. There is always queue here , so atleast you have to spend 20-30 minutes standing , walking before entering into Darbaar sahib. Once you are inside , then you can sit , pray ,meditate or just feel the atmosphere for ANY amount of time. Nobody will ask you to empty the space. Unless you are not blocking other people walking space.
After praying , reach to LANGAR. Enjoy the simple and authentic , but Tasty langar (Lunch with Roti , Daal , Kheer). Eat as much as you want. Nobody will ask you to stop eating. ;)
After fillng up your tummy , then take a walk into Central Sikh Museum and enjoy all the rare "Ancient things" related to Sikhism.
At about 2 pm , bid farewell to Darbaar sahib and come outside. Book a cab/Vehicle/Full Tempo if you in family or else take a share tempo from outside for going to Wagah Border.
Wagah Border is nearly 25 km away from Amritsar. Here daily at 5 m , a Beating retreat ceremony happens and both BSF and Pakistan Rangers showcase their "Chivalrous attitude" and "Bold Aggressive but 'Animated' patriotism". Its a treat for all the visitors. You will seriously get the true feeling of being INDIAN. After Beating retreat, come back to Amritsar.
By 8 pm, you will be again at Amritsar Station (Unless you don't waste more time anywhere else).
But there are many other places to visit in Amritsar , But seriously saying , The Government doesn't take that much care of these other places like Ram Tirath (Place where Goddess Sita lived with her twin sons Luv and Kush when Lord Rama abandoned her), Maharaja Ranjit Singh Summer palace Museum (Contains all the things of Great ruler Maharaja Ranjit singhji life).

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
