mindset, though it makes sense. In IR the emphasis has always been to transport mazimum people in minimum cost, and that can only be done by longer (and by common sense heavier) trains. That calls for more TE and so more weight.
The only way lighter, speedier locos will make sense is when P-way is upgraded, S&T moves to next generation (just imagine, IR still takes blocks to 'upgrade' to RRI :p ) and our fav pet project i.e. HOG finally moves in right direction :)

And one more today, near the same section ( Bibinagar). 22692 NZM-SBC Raj, hauled by LGD WAP7 30418 got stranded at Bibinagar for around 1.5 hrs amidst heavy rain (Based on trip report of another member here). Initially it looked like a case of wheel slip. Apparently LGD WAG9 came to the rescue. It isn't clear yet if this was a case of just stalling or loco failure ( more likely the latter one). Just have to wait for the update on elocos website.

But the transition now is from 24-coach ICF to 22-coach LHB, the latter being 350 tonnes lighter without SG equipment. The TALGO coaches are even lighter due to the usage of aluminium alloys. The TALGO trainset we're getting is a series 9 trainset, which requires a locomotive for motive power.
Now we know which direction we are heading!

In such adverse weather conditions, my personal pick would be an EMD or WAG6 series :).
They're better at tackling adverse weather conditions. The creep control is basically a very precisely controlled wheel slip (or tending-to-slip condition) and generates heat. This heat vaporizes the water molecules present on the rails.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
