Efforts to augment train services on the Mysuru-Bengaluru section, consequent to the completion of the track doubling work, has continued in order to reduce congestion on the existing tracks.
Pratap Simha, Mysuru MP, met the Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu in New Delhi on Tuesday and discussed augmenting services on the highly saturated section between the two cities. Mr. Simha pointed out that the Chamundi Express, connecting Mysuru and Bengaluru, tends to be overcrowded as it is heavily patronised by the office crowd from both ends.
Hence, he sought an additional service for

passengers scheduled to depart from Bengaluru around 4.30 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. so as to wean away the crowd from the Chamundi Express.
When contacted, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Mysuru Division Anil Kumar said that the proposal submitted by the MP to the Minister has to be studied for feasibility before implementation.
It may be recalled that the demand for an additional train during peak hours is pending since the last couple of years and the stakeholders have made representations to the local officials in support of it. The pre-budgetary proposals to the railway authorities also emphasised the need for additional services but is yet to get an official clearance.
Pradeep, a social activist with special interest on issues related to railways, told The Hindu that the full benefits of the track doubling project completed on the section was yet to accrue to the public.
“There are no train services from Mysuru towards Bengaluru between 11.15 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. while there is a similar window from 3.30 p.m. to 6.15 p.m. at the Bengaluru end,” said Mr. Pradeep who justified the need for an express train in the interim period.
There are 24 pairs of trains operating on the Mysuru-Bengaluru section (including biweekly and weekly services) and consequent to the completion of the track doubling work, the line utilisation capacity is about 65 per cent.
A railway official said since the track capacity – the number of trains that can be run on a stretch in a 24 hour period – has been augmented, there was scope to introduce an additional five to six pairs of trains to cater to the public.
But the critical issue is capacity constraints at the terminal stations — at Bengaluru and Mysuru — which cannot handle additional rakes and hence the benefits of track doubling was not accruing to the commuters.
Pratap Simha, MP, met the Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu and discussed the issue

There has recently been a lot of frustration among RFs when their Station Pics, Loco Pics, Train Pics get rejected because the "number is not showing", "shed is not visible", the loco/train is at a distance, Train Board is too small, "better pic available", etc. . To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...

-@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...
