The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) today said the initial trial runs on the 3.5 km stretch between Kalindi Kunj Depot and the Okhla Vihar station of its Magenta Line (Line 8) (Janakpuri west to Botanical Garden) had started at a low speed.

During these trials, the interface of the Metro train will be checked to ensure that there is no physical infringement with civil infrastructure during the movement of the train on the track. Testing of various sub-systems of coaches will also be done, a press release from DMRC

Later on, in stages, the new signaling technology to be implemented on this corridor and Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) will also undergo rigorous testing, it said.

The response of the train at different speeds, braking of the train and the inter-connection with the Operations Control Centre (OCC) will also be monitored during the trials. The behavior of the track system and the Over Head Electrification (OHE) will be checked repeatedly, the release added.

According to the release, Line 8 will have a total length of 38 km, including the Kalindi Kunj – Botanical Garden portion of 3.494 km. It will have 25 stations, including ten elevated stations and 15 underground stations.

The line is expected to have an estimated ridership of 3, 61,356, and three train sets have already been received in the Kalindi Kunj Depot.

-@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...

The modification to the TL Update scheme - i.e. the introduction of the new RAC System - has led to some efficiency with TL Updates. More TLs are being discussed, and quickly moved up. However, we still have on Average, about 300 Waitlisted TLs in the backlog at any time, and our hard-working and diligent TLMs...
