Indian trains and railway stations have an indescribable charm associated with them that captures the imagination of filmmakers, artists and writers alike. Right from Rajesh Khanna singing “Mere sapnon ke rani kab aayegi tu” to a captivating Sharmila Tagore aboard the Darjeeling toy train, to the climax scene of Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge where Shahrukh Khan stretches out his hand to Kajol running towards him in slow motion, Bollywood has romanced the railways like no Hollywood film ever could.
And then there is Ruskin Bond’s short story, A Night Train at Deoli, where the railway platform is represented beautifully, a perfect setting for this narrative.

The song 'mere sapnon ki rani' was picturized in isolation, ie. the scene of Sharmila Tagore riding the train on one day and Rajesh Khanna another day. Both the reels were then professionally merged together.
I have also read 'A Night Train At Deoli[compulsory part of ISC curriculum], the deserted station[which functioned like a technical halt only]was the background where the narrator's infatuation was set.
