Suresh Prabhu is proving himself to be the most politically motivated Rail Minister of India. Even Lalu and Mamta were far better than him. Don't the other regions if this country needs trains. is it that only people of U.P needs trains and other states are just a mere spectator. I pray to god that BJP must loose U.P then I would like to see the face of Suresh Prabhu and Manoj Sinha.

Going by past records, Mr Prabhu is one of the most apolitical minister in the Central Govt. Mr. Prabhu did not contest lok sabha election and still had been inducted as RM through Rajya Sabha route, due to his clean image and based on his superb performance as power & Energy ministry.
Looks like (being a CA) Mr Prabhu (a non BJP- non elected minister) is primarily given the task of improving IR finances only, rest (new trains etc) are being under the MoS/ BJP.
It was reported that MoS (BJP

man) was not in favour of flexi fares, but it was enforced by Mr. Prabhu. Is he being used as a guided missile by BJP or BJP is doing a "Manmohan" to him i.e. what Congress did to Mr Manmohan Singh i.e. using his good image to the hilt for the benefit of Party High Command. After UP elections, picture shall be more clear.

Though he may sound and come across as apolitical, being a armchair politician he is more into managing headlines and needy for approval of newspaper editorials. Hence the numerous show-ups at media house conclaves/meets and general back-slapping events.

Agree with 'Manmohan' simile.
Because hardly has any 'institutionalized corruption' like scrapping of coaches, tendering of many little things and general avenues of corruption related

to railways stopped. Corruption goes on unabated.

Whatever RB he inherited he has continued. Few powers have been disbursed to lower levels but small things like even extending a DEMU, the zones need RB approval.
-
Not much change; just twittering away into a good-media-friendly image.
-
You need a politician like Narasimha Rao behind you to orchestrate a major change.
-
Only grass root politicians understand the need for change, the need to do away with the status-quo. Only they can kick the bureaucracy in the rear.

-@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...

The modification to the TL Update scheme - i.e. the introduction of the new RAC System - has led to some efficiency with TL Updates. More TLs are being discussed, and quickly moved up.
