DAVANAGERE: Hundreds of passengers on board the Mysuru-bound Siddaganga Intercity Express were in for a shock when the train was "confiscated" at Harihar station in central Karnataka's Davanagere district on Monday morning.
The train was stopped for more than 100 minutes following a court order to "confiscate" it over the railways' alleged failure to compensate a 62-year-old farmer, A G Shivakumar, who had lost his land to a railway project in 2006.
A senior railway official sought time to release the compensation, but the court staff and the aggrieved farmer wanted an assurance

in writing. The train was allowed to resume its journey only after the official gave a written assurance to the court that the compensation would be settled in a week.
In the latest incident, senior divisional magistrate Subhash Bandu Hoskale of Harihar ordered the attachment of the train after the railway authorities failed to give Rs 38 lakh in compensation to Shivakumar. The railways had acquired farmlands in a 100-km stretch between Chitradurga and Rayadurga in 1991 to lay tracks. Of the 300 farmers who parted with land, 100 are yet to receive compensation.
This is second such incident in Karnataka this year in which a train has been stopped to force the railways to award compensation to farmers losing land to rail projects. A similar event also took place in Himachal Pradesh this year.

There has recently been a lot of frustration among RFs when their Station Pics, Loco Pics, Train Pics get rejected because the "number is not showing", "shed is not visible", the loco/train is at a distance, Train Board is too small, "better pic available", etc. . To address this issue, effective tomorrow, ALL...

-@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...
