Mumbai: Western Railway has proposed a major overhaul of fare slabs for first- and second-class season tickets to shore up revenues of the suburban system that registered a loss of Rs 1,400 crore in the last financial year. The proposed overhaul is also an attempt to rationalise fares in terms of operational costs, said a senior WR official.
The plan will be implemented only after an approval from the railway board. The official said if the new structure is accepted, it will be implemented on Central Railway's Central and Harbour lines too. The maximum hike in monthly pass fare for first-class commute has been proposed on WR's Churchgate-Dadar and CR's CST-Matunga routes at 47%, followed by Churchgate-Malad and CST-Nahur at 38%....

Season Ticket fares have to be increased by 10 to 20 % only.Or first increased to 20 to 40% and after strong protest by Mumbai commuters with violence and destroy crores of railway properties ,reduced to 10 to 20 % fare rise.
