Southern Railway^~ 84 news posts
At a time when India looks at ways to deal with its growing pollution problem, this technology may well be an effective solution. Recently, Alstom unveiled a zero-emission train that is powered by hydrogen fuel cell. Called the 'Coradia iLint', Alstom says the train is an alternative to diesel power. Given that Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has spoken extensively of Indian Railways plan for electrification, this is one technology that may interest him. This would also be in line with Modi government's bid to go green!
The trains is powered by an electrical traction drive. Electrical energy is generated on-board in a fuel cell and intermediately stored in batteries

For Better Managed Indian Railways~ 1933 blog posts
Going by his penchant for environmental concern, great emphasis on the solar energy and wind energy, this environment friendly train-technology must surely be under his scanner.
This technology must be introduced for the heritage railways like Darjeeling Himalayan, Neelgiri, Kalka-Shimla, Matheran, Pathankot-Jogindernagar etc where very long journeys are not required to be performed, thereby avoiding any mid way refuelling of Hydrogen. These beautiful and cleaner trains shall better help us to maintain the heritage status of these railways and shall be liked by tourists also, thereby promoting the tourism industry as well.
