There’s some good news for passengers travelling between Bengaluru and Mangaluru by
train. The travel time is soon expected to reduce by 90 minutes, with a new railway line between the two cities via Shravanabelagola and Hassan getting almost readied. All it needs is clearance from the Commissioner of Rail Safety.
The Rs 1,300-crore project, a dream child of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, which was sanctioned in 1996-1997, is finally inching towards completion.

initial hurdles like fund crunch and permission for the railway line to pass through Vijay Mallya’s stud farm in Kunegal, issues pertaining to acquisition of small patches of land in Ramanagara district to lay the railway line became contentious later.
The 368-km route from Bengaluru (Chikkabanavar is starting station) will be a 10.5-hour journey till Mangaluru and will help one reach quicker than the existing route via Mysuru and Hassan which takes 11.45 hours and Arsikere and Hassan that takes 11.15 hours to complete, said Chief Engineer, Constructions, South Western Railway, M Ravindranath Reddy.
"What is more significant is that popular tourist destinations like Shravanabelagola and the Adichunchanagiri Mutt (near Bala Gangadharanatha Swamiji railway station) will be easily accessible due to train stoppages here and Nelamangala near Bengaluru can also be quickly reached through this route," he said.

SWR is too reluctant.
it wont allow new trains on a Gradient route.
Also Single line sec.
Unless political drama, new trains are not getting introduced either.

Yes make the present Bangalore karwar/kannur exp as two operate one train to kannur via Mysore and another to madgoan via shravanabeloga and cancel the present Mangalore madgoan intercity express. This train itself serves as day inter city express as most travellers get down from Mangalore to kundapur with separate quota for Goa.

(1) Why polishing a dining table and taking pride when its legs are creaking!!
(2) Instead of attacking at the root cause of the problem i.e. doubling or increasing the sectional capacity of the Hasan-Mangalore section, specifically the ghat section, the new line will serve no significant purpose for the Mangalore bound traffic, as introduction of new trains (possible after de-bottlenecking the Hasan-Mangalore section) is the primary requirement.
(3) Slow speed and poor sectional capacity is a result of a myopic thinking of IR in early 1990s, to any how do

very rapid gauge conversion (for political mileage) with limited funds available, by compromising heavily on quality and safety parameters like, not going for straightening of track necessary for broadening of tracks in hilly sections, modernisation of signalling and adequate strengthening of foundation and tracks. As a result the gauge converted tracks could not give enough augmentation to the number of trains on the section and enough increase in the speeds/avg. speeds of the trains running on converted BG. MR wanted to complete the projects within its tenure to reap full electoral benefits and carried the job at break neck speed resulting in compromise with quality and safety.

-@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...
