Navi Mumbai: The railway terminus at Panvel is set to get bigger. The railways have just begun initial legwork to expand the terminus. If things go to plan, there will be more trains originating from and terminating at this terminus. The terminus, which has seven platforms, is slated to get three new platforms besides six bridges and a subway.
The infrastructure and facilities slated to be introduced here promise to make this terminus a busy hub in the future, railway officials claimed. Trains headed to the north, south, east and west will originate from Panvel, enabling passengers from Navi Mumbai to board trains from Panvel.
officials said that some of the trains from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) and Lokmanya Tilak Teminus (Kurla) will be diverted to originate from Panvel. Besides, it will also provide an additional line capacity to run more local train services on the CST-Kalyan route. Also, a third railway line will be laid up to Kalamboli. An elevated parking area of 18,700-sq-mt area is also on the cards.
The expansion work is estimated to cost Rs154 crore and is being funded jointly by the railways (33%) and Cidco. Manager of Panvel railway station, DK Gupta, said infrastructure projects will be executed without delay to neutralize escalation of costs. CR senior section engineer at Panvel, SG Suman, said the target is to complete work by 2017.

-@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...

The modification to the TL Update scheme - i.e. the introduction of the new RAC System - has led to some efficiency with TL Updates. More TLs are being discussed, and quickly moved up. However, we still have on Average, about 300 Waitlisted TLs in the backlog at any time, and our hard-working and diligent TLMs...
