TIRUPATI: The long-pending project to develop the Tirupati railway with world class amenities will soon take off. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has already decided to hand over a land parcel to the railways to take up the modernisation programme. Incidentally, the Union urban development ministry and the railway ministry have agreed to remodel the important railway station in a bid to boost spiritual tourism in the city.
Though Tirupati is classified as an A-1category railway station it needs a facelift. About 70,000 pilgrims visit Tirupati every day and on weekends the rush increases to about one lakh. A majority of the pilgrims arriving in Tirupati get down at the local railway station. Tirupati is one of the three cities in Andhra
Pradesh selected for a complete facelift under the smart cities programme. In tune with the smart cities programme, the railways too has decided to develop the Tirupati station.
Earlier, this month the TTD chairman Ch Krishnamurthy called on Union minister of railways Suresh Prabhu and urged him to develop the city railway station. He also expressed the TTD's readiness to extend support to the railways in the development of the station.

-@all members: As of recently, there has been a trend whereby minor name updates of Trains/Stations - whether such and such regional name should be there or not, whether the train should be called "Abc Express" or "Abc Superfast Express", etc. are threatening to take over the majority of Timeline entries. Also,...

The modification to the TL Update scheme - i.e. the introduction of the new RAC System - has led to some efficiency with TL Updates. More TLs are being discussed, and quickly moved up. However, we still have on Average, about 300 Waitlisted TLs in the backlog at any time, and our hard-working and diligent TLMs...
