Patna: Railways has decided to redesignate the station manager post at all A1 category stations as station director.
There are 75 A1 category stations in the country, including Patna Junction, Dhanbad, Darbhanga, Mughalsarai, Gaya and Muzaffarpur under the East Central Railway (ECR) jurisdiction.
A Railway Board official said the basic objective behind redesignating station master as station director is to keep a close watch on the basic amenities available at all category A1 stations in each zone. However, the job of a station director would be to provide a hassle-free service to passengers

during journey, he said.
The station director would maintain proper cleanliness on railway premises and ensure efficient functioning of railway ticket booking and passenger reservation system (PRS) counters as well. S/he is supposed to ensure punctuality of all originating trains from their respective jurisdiction and redress the passengers’ grievances on the spot. Catering and meal services would also be monitored directly by the station director.
Concerned over security measures, the Railway Board has also decided to implement integrated security system at all major stations. CCTV cameras will be installed at all major stations at vantage points. While 344 stations have been provided with CCTV cameras so far, about 500 more CCTV cameras would be installed at different stations, including in Bihar, sources said, adding that the ministry has directed the Board to ensure deployment of sniffers at all major and crowded stations to check anti-sabotage activities.
Sources said railways has decided to launch a joint drive by commercial andRPF men to maintain safety measures on the tracks. While 2,500 trains are being escorted by the RPF, 2,200 passenger trains are being escorted by GRP men in the country.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
