It is right time to introduce train sets in IR, keeping in view the aspiration for higher speeds.

In general, imports cost exorbitantly, so ICF built train set is likely to be much cheaper. But what matters more is the cost comparison with indigenous conventional train of same capability. Train set should not be much higher cost of the proposed ICF built 160kmph 16coached train set as compared to the cost of conventional train of same length & carrying capacity (like Gatimaan).

In order to ensure proliferation of train sets in IR, it is essential to develop train sets with 25/27 coach length, so that fares of the trainsets could be kept within the reach of more & more people, and at the same time the huge passenger travel demand before IR could be better met.
