December 2016
--------------------------
"Bhai saheb, andar jaane ka rastha aur chappal stand kidar hai!!!" was my question to one of a security personnel standing on main road near Mahakaleshwar temple. "Beta, wahan saamne dekho... vo free darshan ka entry hai. Andar chale jaaoge tho thume chappal stand mil jaayega" was the generous reply from the old man.
After getting in to the Retiring Room at the morning, we decided to have a brief rest and proceed towards the main temple of Ujjain, leaving all the electronic gadgets in the room itself. Before entering the temple we had very soft idlys with chutney at Andhra Ashram and with the guidance of policeman, we entered the temple for darshan. Darshan happened to be smooth and effortless and we were able to witness 11 o'clock Abhishekam. Frankly speaking, for someone, who is habituated to those endless waiting in the queue and compartment of Tirumala complex, any darshan will be smooth. After the darshan, we headed back to Retiring room to have some sleep. The station and the temple town, both were clean and well maintained. The station was very peaceful compared to the activities happened a day before in Jaipur. Within a day, the aura of diesel empire was replaced by catenary jungle. There were few Waggies resting at the outer towards Bhopal side. Announcement for both up and down Malwa Express were given. I thought of waiting at platform check the loco links, but tiredness had the better of me.
After a brief nap, we again moved towards the temple at 12PM, not for a darshan again, but to visit other places located around the temple. First, we went to Andhra Ashram where we had lunch. The menu for the lunch was a typical Andhra menu consisting of Rice, Dal, Sambar, chutney, bhindi fry, aalo curry, curd and paapad. The taste and aroma was so great that it reminded me the phrase "Naani ke ghar ka khaana". We visited couple of temples along with Vikramaditya memorial statue and the pushkar ghat on the bank of river Shipra. By the time dusk settled we were back to the station. Since the distance between station and temple was significantly less, the whole day preferred to walk. After another nap, we woke up at 10PM and had lite dinner at the entrance of station. We had chat and roti with subzi for dinner and headed back. On checking NTES, 12976 Jaipur-Mysore Express which we were supposed to board on next was approaching Kota. We packed our bags and decided to sleep for remaining 3 hours to keep ourselves fresh for a 19 hour action packed journey.

Train No.: 12976
Source: Ujjain(UJN)
Destination: Kacheguda(KCG)
Alarm went berserk exactly at 3:30AM and NTES said:"19km to go". We immediately checked out from Retiring room after fresh up and headed down to the platform. The Coach position display right in front of the staircase heading from Retiring room displayed "S5" which means that we need not move here and there to board our assigned coach. Right at 3:55AM our train made a silent entry on to the platform with white stallion Lalaguda(LGD) WAP7 30337 in lead. It was a 2011 made coach with charging ports present and side lower berth was on track side(bingooo!!! 3 in 3 for this trip). But the welcome scene was completely contrasting compared to the one in the first ride. Here 4 passengers with waiting list tickets had occupied our seats. On making a rightful demand they generously made way for us to occupy our dedicated seats. We departed at 4:01AM with a huge delay of 1 minute(for someone from Japan though). As WAP7 was busy in unleashing the beast within, we placed ourselves on our berths for yet another sleep.
By the time I woke up, we had already crossed Narmada river and were making an entry into Hosanghabad. While making a 40 minutes delayed departure, we crossed Varanasi bound Kamyani express hauled by Itarsi WAP4. WOW... same pair of trains, same station, but in opposite direction witnessed 4 days back!!!. The run was sedate all the way till Itarsi outer. We were greeted by a concor rake lead by WAG5 twins from Valsad(BL) while negotiating the grand curve before occupying the platform. At Itarsi I got the opportunity to meet Mr. Suraj Parihar, a passionate Railfan who is fondly known as ET Seth. Even though the conversation lasted for 10 minutes only, we tried to get to know about each other as much as possible and bidden adieu after taking a customary selfie.
We departed from Itarsi at 9:32AM with 17 minutes delay. By the time I reached my seat, it was occupied by my dad!! He gave a stern look at me which held the statement: Eppudu nuvve na, nenu ikkada kurcho kudadha(Always you will take this seat!! Shouldn't I sit here!!). I slowly dragged my self to the opposite window seat, facing opposite to the direction of movement of train. Within no time, we were thrashing intermediate stations at MPS. We had idly and wada ordered from pantry for breakfast. Idly was soft and wada was crispy, but chutney was stale and tasteless. Finally MPS show came to an end when we arrived at Dharakhoh where a tigerfaced WAG7 from Kalyan(KYN) shed was attached as banker. We were crossing the Mahadev hills where screeching sound was the only sound, coming from beneath the coaches. After banker getting detached at Marhamjhiri, we reached Betul at 11:15AM where EMD twins from Hubbali with coal filled boxn rake was waiting. After departing from Betul, our train did a constant MPS show till Chichonda, where in between we made an MPS crossing with Hazrat Nizamuddin bound Dakshin Express hauled by Lalaguda WAP7. While descending the ghat section of Chichonda-Teegaon, we crossed couple of trains hauled by WAP4s with a WAG9 and twins WAG7s as bankers respectively. After exiting from the final ghat section of the trunk route, we crossed with a WAP4 hauling 1 SLR coach, 2 General coaches and couple of JanShatabdi coaches. We reached Pandhurna at 12:36PM and after departing from there, we crossed Jaipur bound Secunderabad-Jaipur Express hauled by Bhagat-ki-Kothi's WDP4D 40275. The crossing made me realize that we crossed the rake in which we traveled 4 days back!!! Meanwhile we were skipping all the intermediate stations at MPS and by the time we reached Kalmeshwar we entered before time zone of the schedule. After clearing Bharatwada and Godhani at MPS we reached Nagpur dot and time and occupied platform 2.
While searching for food options on the platform, announcement for New Delhi bound TamilNadu express was going on. I wasted no time in purchasing food and rushed back to my seat to see the link of the BIG BOSS. Yessss, the Big Boss arrived, and arrived in some style on to platform 1 with Erode WAP4 22244 in lead. After the arrival of Southern Railway's big boy, we made the departure. I brought Egg Biryani on platform, which costed me 60 Rs./- per pack. The quantity was more than enough to satisfy any bhukkad and it was spicy as well. By the time we completed the lunch, we were cruising at sedate pace and witnessed back to back MPS crossings with heavyweights from south India. First was the primo supremo Bangaluru Rajdhani followed by legend from South Central Railway Andhra Pradesh Express... oops Telangana Express :(, both hauled by white stallions from Lalaguda shed. The third line works were worth noting. We made an unscheduled halt at Sindhi. I was expecting a overtake by Delhi Sarai Rohilla-Yeswantpur Duronto Express, but NTES stated that it was running late by 7 hours and we were separated by a safe distance of 250km. The NTES status made me realize a possible mistake which was averted 4 months back. My first plan was to take any train to Bhopal and board Duronto, but destiny had other plan. After a 5 minutes halt, we got the starter to proceed ahead. We reached Sewagram at 3:32PM and departed after the arrival of Yeswantpur-Ghorakhpur Express hauled by Lalaguda WAP4 22205. It was a brisk run till Hinganghat, where we crossed Trivandrum-Korba Express hauled by Erode WAP4 22760. Chandrapur was negotiated at 5:06PM and reached Balharshah at 5:36PM, 19 before time for scheduled departure. As we were killing time, Itarsi WAP4 22757 hauled Yeswantpur-Lucknow exp arrived and occupied platform 4 and Arakkonam WAG5HA twins with empty boxn rake came from behind and occupied platform 2.
We departed bang on time from Balharshah at 5:55PM. Wardha river was negotiated with setting sun in backdrop. After spending whole day time in Central Railways territory, we entered South Central Railways limit to rule the night. We took last remaining samosas from the pantry guy, who was taking order for dinner in parallel. The samosas we had was one of the best I had on board. The potato stuff was very delicious. A special mention about our co passengers: They were a group of 20 members consisting of all age groups from 3 different generations boarded at Vikramgarh Alot and were heading to Mysuru to attend a marriage. Even though we were separated by region and religion, by this time they have treated us like part of their own family. Home food was always there to offer from their side and had some conversations. Thanks to railways for giving "family wali feeling" for millions of passengers on daily basis. In mean time, complete darkness had prevailed and we were cruising through the forest region near Sirpur. Sirpur Kaghaznagar was negotiated at 6:47PM(7 minutes late) and Bellampalli at 7:16PM(1 minute late). We reached Mancherial at 7:34PM. Mancherial being my best friend's home town, I wasted no time in taking a dig on him in whatsapp.
Conversation:
Me: *PIC* Hey, I am in Manchuria
Friend: Greater Mancherial
Me: Yeah yeah Gobi Manchuria
*Civil war begins*
While the banter was going on, we were already cruising through the mighty Godavari river. The word mighty is in reference to the span of the river. Real sense of mightiness can be experienced at Rajamahendravaram. After crossing Ramagundam cautiously, there was no looking back as all the stations were thrashed without mercy all the way till Komatipalli. After slowly skipping Wadepally lake, we entered platform 3 of Kazipet. After departing from Kazipet at 9:13PM(13 minutes late) we crossed WAP4 led Charminar express and Kakatiya fast passenger led by WAP4 at Naskhal. Our train had considerable slack in Kazipet-Kacheguda stretch and we were thrashing all the stations at MPS.
Zangaon: 3 minutes early
Wangapally: 20 minutes early
Pagidipalli Junction: 29 minutes early
Bibinagar: 32 minutes early
Ghatkesar: 35 minutes early
Charlapalli: 41 minutes early
Moula Ali Bypass Cabin: 40 minutes early, where we waited for couple of trains to cross before switching to Bypass line
Moula Ali Gate: 22 minutes early
Vidya Nagar: 13 minutes early
Even though we crawled all the way from Moula Ali bypass cabin till Kacheguda outer, we were 10 minutes early and waited for entry on to the platform. After killing 5 more minutes, we were given the starter to occupy the platform.
Wow... a trip started with 1 minute late departure has finally ended with 1 minute before arrival at Kacheguda.
Booked an UBER cab and reached home at 12:30AM with lots of memories :)
