Nokia E71 and E72 GPS works without data connection(Have both and using for last 1.5 years), Data connection is desirable to have fast lock on satellites based on the Almanac and Ephemeris data that is obtained from third party server(using the data connection) and locking onto those satellites immediately instead of trying each and every satellite.

Without a data connection Cold lock onto satellites takes as much as 3 minutes in E71 under clear sky, where as with data connection it is hardly 10 seconds. Same for E72.
