booked 4 tatkal tickets in this train. all got confirmed before journey. However while booking i didnt have my ID card handy. coz in IRCTC it didnt show as a manadatory field when i checked the previous day.
However while booking it refused to go forward without the ID card numbers. I faintly remembered the first four digits of my DL and typed in there.
During travel time, i explained to the TTE that i didnt have my ID at that time, and didnt have time to go and get the same. I carried a print out of the IRCTC page to show that the tickets were booked from my account only. I also carried a print out of my bank statement from net banking that clearly showed the money...

was paid from my account. However the TTE refused and said this is not a valid ticket. I accept it was my fault to an extent, however he said he will charge me the same fare of 4 tickets as fine. we finally decided on Rs 500.
My question is even when the DL no had 4-5 correct digits... (DL start with the state reg with), and i also showed the bank account details and IRCTC account details, was the TTE right in asking for the fine?

I think instead of taking initiative from your end for exposing your own mistake TTE may have not noticed "minor " mistake.
Technically TTE was right.

Crime is very relative word.here the passenger was genuine it was "honest mistake"passenger even came with the alternatives to show his sincerity.
LAW is very dry in nature..however human emotions are not.
I never said TTE was wrong.He has done his duty.......
