MY PATH TO BEING AN ADMINISTRATOR OF IRI
part 1/3
railways had been my subject of interest ever since i stepped out all alone from my hometown , sahibganj jn, to delhi, for persuing my 10+2 studies. Travelling all alone for 22 hours for the first time, needs a lot of courage. it was then i came to know, that railways can be your best friends ever,if you consider them so. days passed by and my love for train travel kept on increasing,so much so,that i refused flights just for the sake of train journeys...began changing trains, even when a direct train was available...i began buying all the railway timetables possible...started noting down names of stations enroute...my friends started calling me rail enquiry and my family began getting disturbed due to my obsession with railways...

in the meanwhile i came upon irfca in the year 2003,and joined their mailing list...they sent mails and it was amusing to know persons with similar interests.about 2 years ago, they switched over to other format, and your mails needed moderation before being published...a major drawback as a minimum of 2-3 hours was required for moderation...
i needed a website that could provide information for any particular train, their coach composition, route, problems of local passengers and above all help regarding confirmatn of pnr and it was nowhere to be found...

Greatly narratedbHussain sir.My random thoughts..
Most of the rail love starts during teens,by watching locs and loco pilots.Waving to them, getting a ride at loco yards etc.Which you may agree.
Then starts counting coaches, loco numbers etc.Collecting TT s was an obsession, though rail travels very rare- once a year to Bangalore,Madras.
I was inspired by my Bombay-colaba Uncle in CR( Dy CME) who gave me Suburaban TT( those days it was on blue print-like building plan-I may still have it).He explained about CR,WR, harborbridge line ,Dadar/ Matunga cross over etc.Have been fascinated by trams rolling on Colaba Causeway.
.Now after joining IRI have acquired other knowledge about locos, rakes etc.Initially I was just browsing

before registering.Only after I realised how responsible!serious and informed ,members here are,I wanted to be a part and registered .
Do you know,I selected to reside at the present aptt as it is right behind Mysore- Chamrajnagar rly track.Trains are so punctual here,we can set our clocks.
I am sure most of rail fans have gone thro these or similar phases in past.
Will post some interesting happenings during the coming days..thanks

well,i dont know when collecting timetables exceeded the passion to collect chacha chowdhary comics...but,i still count the total wagons in freight trains...only god knows what pleasure i derive, but its almost involuntary...i too have resided at mulangunnathukkavu, thrissur, kerala, patna jn,bihar, sahibganj jn,jharkhand, old delhi and now patipukur, west bengal...apart from delhi, all my homes were near to railway tracks...the current one being the best as i can see all the trains entering and leaving sdah infront of my eyes...a friend of mine comes almost every day to my home...he comes to see duronto enter sdah and stays till rajdhani leaves sdah...common interest...ha!!
