Commissioner of Railway Safety, Southern Circle, Bangalore, S. K. Mittal, on Wednesday gave the nod for the electrified Thiruvananthapuram-Kanyakumari railway line.
With the mandatory nod for the 87 route km, Railways will be able to run trains hauled by electric locomotive up to the southern tip of the country.
Confirming the clearance, the Divisional Railway Manager, Rajesh Agrawal, told The Hindu that Railways could begin running trains hauled by electric locomotive up to Kanyakumari any day from Wednesday.
The clearance for the electrified line comes within six days after Mr. Mittal inspected the electrified line, completed at a cost of Rs. 70 crore.
Mr. Agrawal said Railways would be able to run all trains,

including the Rajadhani Express, in Thiruvananthapuram-Kanyakumari section using electric-hauled locomotive.
The decision of running the first train hauled by electric locomotive will be taken after the CRS clearance is officially intimated to the Southern Railways. The CRS has also given the permission to Railways to run trains up to the maximum sectional speed of 80 km per hour. In the electrified sections, Railways could run trains up to 140 km per hour.
There are 60 Road-Over-Bridges (ROB) and Foot-Over-Bridges (FOB) in the single line section. Railway Board had “condoned” the 13 structures, including the ROB, the FOB and two tunnels at Palliyadi and Balaramapuram that did not have the minimum stipulated distance of 6.52 m.
The power to the electrified line is supplied by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board from the sub-station at Eraniel across the border.
Henceforth, Railways could avoid changing the electric locomotive of mail and express trains bound for Nagercoil and Kanyakumari either at Kollam or at Thiruvananthapuram Central. This could save 30 minutes. Twenty trains now ply daily in the section.
The 320-route-km Thiruvananthapuram-Ernakulam railway line was electrified at a cost of Rs. 162 crore and commissioned on December 30, 2006.
THIS IS AN EXCERPT FROM THE HINDU NEWSPAPER.Please read the fifth sentence carefully. This proves beyond doubt that either the media persons are publishing crap or the HIERARCHY of Hamara IR do not know what they are talking about.

Sir, the DRM's intention was correct. He says the line would be able to operate trains even of Raj's caliber. He did not mean a Raj exists or will come into play. Maybe he could have said an SF instead of the word "Raj."

That's right Sire. If the press release would have come from our end, such mistakes could have been accepted. But from DRM end, he cannot simple release such statements.
