Here's Moderator Sir's take on the whole issue:

When there is a choice for Station Board between multiple pictures, please favour those which show the name as well as background/atmosphere/building of the station. If the name can be made out legibly in all languages, that's sufficient.
It is not necessary for the name to occupy all of the picture. It may be monotonous for users just to see a closeup of the name in yellow & black. Background/building/greenery, etc. will add flavour to the picture.
The above applies only where there is a choice of multiple pics for a particular station.

Yes, here he needs to give certain guidelines for upadting/changing the station board pic to all admins. We can see so many changes just for the sake of name in the timeline. Better pics are being under covered and the odd ones taking the front place.
