Sir,
It should be a direct (in person) approach requesting him to accommodate somehow, if feasible.
You should never have a fully waitlisted E ticket for such an approach.
Take care of distance restrictions too in select trains.
A strict TTE may ask you to get down at next halt if he finds it impossible to accommodate you.
Sometimes, AC Coach attendants and Coolies also make the way smoother.
