I mentioned elsewhere that the population of Gandhinagar is around 2 lakhs while that of Ahmedabad is 60lakhs. Assuming that the number of passengers is in the same ratio, it seems to be infeasible. Even if 10% of the passengers are from Gandhinagar, just imagine if 90% of the passengers with their luggage board the train at Ahmadabad, just imagine the chaos. Even if this is so, the train will have to stop for a longer time. Passenger psychology is such that if the train stops even for 20 minutes, the passengers get anxious and try and board the train immediately leading to confusion. Even while alighting, this is the problem. This could be the reason why WR is not going in for the extension of this train to Gandhinagar.

I am not sure whether we should compare the two situations - Gandhinagar-Ahmedabad AND BBSR-Puri. As mentioned in my earlier the population of Ahmadabad is 30 times more than Gandhinagar at 60 lakhs. The population of Puri is 2 lakhs, while that of BBSR is 8.5 lakhs (just about 4.5 times). Puri has a lot more floating 'traveling 'population being a religious place, than Gandhinagar although the latter has Akshardham. I wonder why Rajdhani has not been extended to Puri..In case of GandhiNagar-Ahmedabad the problem could also be maintenance, Gandhinagar may not have facilities especially for EOG.
Yeah, time may come when the Rajdhani could be extended to Gandhinagar. It could happen there is 'space' problem at ADI or through political pressure or some other reason. But frankly, I doubt it in the near future
