Guwahati, Jun 15 (PTI) A major train mishap was averted today when the driver of the Dibrugarh-bound Kamrup Express found a goods train stationed on the same track and applied emergency brakes in time in central Assam's Morigaon district.

The driver of the express found a foodgrain-loaded goods train near the Barahu railway station ahead on the track and applied emergency brakes, North East Frontier Railway public relation officer Nripendra Bhattacharya said.

Actually another (goods) train was on the right track and Kamrup was put on wrong track just like Hampi Exp. LPs of Hampi Exp were not lucky enough.

Something of this kind was expected..May & June has been recorded the highest No. OF FCI Food Grains(Rice & Wheat) loaded BCNA's from Punjab to Assam.A record No. of 367 Freights came only from FCI Food Go Downs,When such a huge No. of Freights will run in Single Track,these unfortunate events are bound to happen.Hats off to the Loco Pilot for showing his presence of mind.
