I would like to know that the elevation (height above MSL) shown on this site is taken from which Database. Is it from IRCTC?
..................
The MSL seems to be different from MSL shown on the Station Name Posts on Platform. e.g JP/Jaipur.....Site shows elevation 434m. Board show elevation 428m.
..................
Long back I posted a picture of SBI/Sabarmati Station Board. But strangely I couldn't find it now. The MSL for SBI was different too.
.........................
Which Data is more accurate?

Your notion of % Error is flawed. That works well in Manufacturing. But in Elevation correct way to limiting allowed error should be like (say) "+/-0.5m"

No you did not get my point. I agree that I may be wrong totally in the percentage of error from a technical point of view. Can you give an example of how the two different elevations ie google/iri on one side (434) and the Indian railway one (428which was done at the time of laying of the tracks) are used by Railfans/aam admi and even technical experts today? I am not saying you are technically wrong. I am not saying which one is correct (I do have faith in satellites, though)...I am asking where is the MSL used today, Why is it important today?

As far as Railways is concerned, for a common man :
1. It's a piece of Factual Information. My Belief is that Facts should be provided with accuracy and in case of conflict, Data source should be provided.
2. It can give a hint of climate at a particular station ( yes, in this case these errors don't matter)
For Technical Reasons, it's accuracy is of much more importance. (as discussed before)

That was I saying Earlier. MSL on Google is not necessarily of Railway Station. But on Railway Boards, it must be of there. Railways Data is is more reliable in this case.

thanks, i got what i wanted. If you feel that the MSL calculated at the time of laying of Railway lines (in Jaipur case it is around 100 years back if not more), then so be it. You are entitled to your views
