PERILS OF BEING A SENIOR CITIZEN
I always prefer the UPPER berth in trains despite being a SENIOR CITIZEN, as they are safer and more comfortable. But to my dismay, while successfully booking 2 tickets a few minutes ago, although I had marked my preference for upper berths, IRCTC has forcibly allotted me LOWER BERTHS for both journeys. Since I had opted for SC concession, I have apparently got berths from the LOWER BERTH QUOTA, despite availability of berths in General Quota. I guess there is no option but to suffer in silence :)

Yes sir, if a senior citizens books his/her ticket with nobody accompanying him/her, the fact that he/she is a senior citizen will be taken into consideration and if available berths will be allotted from lower berth quota. I think that's how the system operates.

That's fine Bibek. But then why does one have to go through the charade of marking his berth preference in that case. Is that why my initial post has been classified by someone as RAILWAY JOKES :)

Maybe just ''For Sake''.Senior Citizens will get LB despite giving other birth options if LB Quota is Avbl.If you want to have UB only , sir i advice you to visit PRS .Surely i guarantee you will get UB as per your wish.

Yes sir. IRCTC should come up with adequate clarification about the way berths are booked to make the booking procedure demystified. About showing the berth choice it should be clearly stated under which conditions the preferred berth will be provided. The best thing to do would be to present the berths in graphics showing the available berths with green colour and the booked berth with red colour. Passengers should be allowed to choose the berths according to their preference.
