The Pattambi Railway Station, one of the oldest railway stations in Malabar — dating back to 1860 — is preparing to celebrate its 150 {+t} {+h} anniversary next year.
The station was connected to Pothanur, 105 km away in the Chennai-Mangalore line, 1199 km long, in 1860.
During those days, it was the last terminal railway station of Malabar. The Pattambi-Mangalore 296-km-line was started only in 1907.

commemorate the 150 {+t} {+h} anniversary of the railway station, the Palakkad Railway Division authorities had recommended the stoppage of three Express trains passing through it.
Their recommendation was sent to the Time Table Committee so that the stoppage could be allowed from next year, the Railway sources here said.
The trains that are recommended for stoppage in Pattambi are 16305\16306 Kannur-Ernakulam Intercity Express; 16627\16628 Chennai-Mangalore-Chennai West Coast Express and 16527\16528 Kannur-Yeshvantpur-Kannur Express,Mangalore - Bangalore Express And 16345/16346 Netravathi Express.
On an average, 4,000 tickets are sold in the station daily, sources in the Railway said.
Though it is one of the oldest and busiest railway stations, it lacks infrastructural facilities. The construction of the second platform in Pattambi is only partially completed. There is no foot overbridge connecting the government offices in the mini Civil Station, government hospital etc., to the Railway station.
So, people have to pass through the station and use the foot overbridge connecting the two railway platforms. Thus, they have to take a platform ticket to use the foot overbridge or travel one km in a roundabout manner to reach civil station. This has been creating serious inconveniences to the general public. Though there is demand for a short-cut line from Pattambi to Guruvayur, it has not been considered by the Railways. The people feel that the Railways will provide the basic infrastructure for Pattambi station now that it is celebrating its 150 {+t} {+h} anniversary.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
