The Railways are in the habit of running late, if they arrive on time it is rare. and if they arrive early it is miracle.
The reasons of coming late is consequential. and now a days, the Naxals are doing unrest such that Railways are the soft target. Further terror acts like cutting the rail , or signal mistake by gangman. There are reasons of many goods trains crossing the way, as now railways are giving priority to goods train movement over passenger trains.

once travelled in Garib rath from Mumbai to Ernakulam, and I was dismayed its delay at various places. and one reason and only reason is the SINGLE TRACK. that hamplers the traffic. So in your case too it might have simlar reasons. Try to have one day break to catch the onward trains in present day scenario. Or take the chance, rather risk of missing the train.
