how can that be brought down....?? say by applying emergency brakes any train must be able to stop within 100 mtrs...because its India...whether the road, rail, agricultural land, forest etc are full of idiots...so you need something like CEAT Grip tyres....so that be it any vehicle should be stopped within min possible distance.

Re# 901690-10
let me give an example what i saw with my own eyes.
just a matter of yesterday, BBS Bound Prashanti Express was at 85 kph or even more, came to halt in just few mins at SCM station when the red signal changed suddenly from green.
there was no emergency brake applied in this phase, they applied the brake completely and the train stopped without any issues.
and
...
secondly,
if a train is running at 110 kph, braking distance is 1 km as per Indian standards, the rest what u said idiots on track, the crew either has to ignore or else slam down brake to "continuous level til the pressure is full" and later emergency brake.
for 130 kph, its 1.5 km (braking distance)
for 160 kph or above, its 2 km (braking distance)
experienced LP's know exactly when and at which point to slow down/brake down, u too know that.

Oh yes, the crew applied brakes after the loco + 2 coaches entered the station i.e at Simhachalam where i was watching near the FOB. by the time it reached the signal, the train halted just few meters away from the signal.

but bhubaneshwar bangalore prashanti exp is an Exp train & most of them have Air Brake & can be made to halt within a very short distance...but i dont think same is possible in case of goods train because of the issue of brakes as well as the inertia...& we've seen max run-overs incident happens with goods train...so RDSO should develop something so that like Mail/Exp goods train can also be brought to sudden halt

Goods train don't go above 100 at all, everyone knows that, u too know it.
they run below 70/80 only and they too have distance braking.
and now a days, when the braking system in Wagons are being modified, its quite possible.
but to bring to a sudden halt will eventually follow up some derailments, coz even if AEB is slammed

down, it'll take almost couple of meters for the entire train to stop.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
