Over the last month, several enhancements have been made to the IRI Atlas. Following are the salient points:
.
1. Previously, the tracks were crude with many straight line segments. Only on clicking on the individual tracks, it would assume a finer form. Now, the tracks are refined even on the overview - there is no requirement for clicking the individual tracks.
.
2....
more... Previously, the individual Train map just showed the that train's route - the other tracks were not seen. Now full Rail Track map appears even on the individual Train and Station pages, with the particular Train Route highlighted.
.
3. Railway zone map: The individual railway zones and stations are now available against a sub-menu to the Atlas tab.
.
4. Stations in the News; All tagged stations in the News Forum are available against the Track Atlas, as a sub-menu to the Atlas menu.
.
5. On the top-right corner of the Atlas, buttons are available to toggle Railway zones and Stations in the News.
.
6. Previously, it was not possible to separately identify the Track type of small sections. For example, a double BG line may have small intervening single track sections. Now, the Atlas has the capability to accurately identify the Track type of each individual section between any two stations.
.
7. Online Track Edits (will be enabled tomorrow): Admins will now be able to edit the Track type of each individual track segment between any 2 stations, including Construction - gauge conversion, electrification, etc. Items 6 and 7 will serve to keep the Atlas accurate and up-to-date for the minutest of Track sections in the finest possible detail. Coming soon: With the ability to edit the Track Type between any 2 stations, many other Track Attributes: like maximum speed, signalling, curves - can also be introduced into the Track Edit box. Suggestions regarding this are invited.
.
Hereafter, members may inform me or Admins, whenever they discover any inaccuracy in the Rail Atlas. As mentioned above, the objective is to have a highly accurate and up-to-date Atlas with all kinds of information including gauge conversion, disruptions, construction of new tracks, etc. Although efforts have been made to achieve accurate station plotting, even now there are a few stations which are slightly shifted/mis-plotted. Station positioning edits will also soon be introduced to Admins so that edits can directly be made immediately.
.
Thanks.
