Kannur - Yesvantpur Express/16518 shall leave Kannur at 6.25PM(18.25hrs), instead of 16.30hrs, to save 2 hours being wasted at Mangalore Central. There are some weekly/bi-weekly trains at 18.15hrs from Kannur(12997-Hapa, 12483-Amritsar, 12287-Dehradun, 12202-Garibrath, etc). All these trains are reaching Mangalore Jn before 20.30hrs. If 16518 CAN-YPR express leaves at 18.25hrs from Kannur just behind these trains, it will reach Mangalore Central before 20.35 hrs(even arrival before 20.30 hrs is possible). So, 16518 YPR express has also almost the same number of stops, with Payyannur & Kanhangad as additional, the same speed and timing can be followed for both the trains with 10 minutes interval, as 16518 has just 8 coaches and can run very fast. So, this train can merge with 16524 Karwar-YPR express at Mangalore Central and leave MAQ at 20.50hrs for YPR, as 15 minutes are sufficient for these trains to have amalgamation and engine reversal. Unnecessarily,...
more... 2 hours of passengers are lost due to the existing timing. If this timing is followed, both Kannur-Yesvantpur express trains will be leaving at the same time from Kannur, as 16528(CAN-YPR Exp.) via Salem is also leaving at the same time from Kannur. As almost all the non-stop express trains(long gap between the stops) are running at a speed of 90 to 110 kmph on Kannur-Mangalore line, this train can reach Mangalore Central from Kannur in less than 2 hours, considering 90kmph running speed and 25 minutes extra time for 3 stops and starting/stopping. As this train has just 8 coaches, it can run at a maximum speed not less than 110kmph. Moreover, once the electrification of Kannur-Mangalore line is over, the starting/stopping time can be considerably reduced to 1 or 2 minutes to achieve full running speed. So, the timing proposed above is absolutely achievable without disturbing the timing of Karwar-Mangalore-Yesvantpur express and a great advantage for the Bangalore passengers from Kannur to Mangalore. At present, Kannur-Yesvantpur express is waiting for Karwar-Yesvantpur express(16524) at Mangalore Central Station for around 2 hours, by losing a considerable time. This waiting time can be minimized to just 15 or 20 minutes, if the proposed timing is implemented. As it is confirmed that Karwar-Yesvantpur train schedule cannot be revised or tightened since it has to run a long distance(260km) from Karwar to Mangalore and it can only run on the existing time schedule, as it is using the same rake of Yesvantpur-Karwar express(16523) for return journey, which reaches Karwar at 14.00hrs and in return, 16524(Karwar-Yesvantpur Express) has to leave from Karwar at 14.40hrs. If the proposed timing is implemented, it will be a great saving of time for the passengers, who are losing considerable time at present.
