recently returned from my trip to India and had a wonderful time. Now planning next trip.
Thinking about taking the Trivndrm Rajdhani (12432) from Delhi to Madgaon.
We would like to go 1AC. Are the berths 4 or 2 in 1AC? Also are meals included?
Any other tips or info on that train would be most welcomed. Thanks

Rajdhani Express is probably the best train you can try. Also you should go for 1 A.C. but it is advisable that you should take confirmed tickets.

If you do not get berths in Trivendrm Rajdhani, You can also try Madgaon Rajdhani (22414), which is specially for Delhi-Goa passengers and there is more chance of getting confirmed berths in Madgaon Rajdhani..

If I took the 08.40am Konkan Express from CST to Neral arriving at 10.03am would I be able to connect with a Toy Train?
I could get the earlier Deccan Exp leaving at 7.00am and arriving at 8.25am.
Any help/advice would be much appreciated. We travel on 18th January.

Unable to book the Sahyadri Express (11024) from Neral to CST due to not within area etc. I tried from Karjat but still the same message. However from Lonavala it's ok. So i booked to lower berths in AC2.
Of course i will not be boarding at Lonaval but will board at Neral. My question is will my berths still be valid even though i didnt occupy them from Lonaval? Will i be regarded as a non show.
I did try through the booking process to choose Neral as boarding point but kept

Need some reassurance my wife and i will be ok.

Mr Nelson, I am afraid booking wouldn't be possible under any circumstances. Neral and CST, under railway parlance comes under similar set of groupings ie the suburban railway and hence a reservation is technically not possible between these two stations. You gotta either take your chances and trust the ticket checker to not have stuck to the rule book (which is common in India), in which case you get your seat at Neral OR you can cancel the present one, and take an unreserved 2AC ticket at the ticket counter at Neral. You can then hop on to the 2AC coach and sit in any empty berth available. And I am sure you will find berths in this train.
Alternatively I

would suggest you to buy a first class ticket and take any fast local train to CST. Around noon on a weekday/weekend, the first class coach would be fairly empty. You have dozens of fast locals from Neral to CST which takes about 90 mins, the same as Sahayadri exp. Here is the list- click here

Thanks for that. What i foind diffiult to understand is why i was given a drop down menu with a choice to board at Neral as opposed to Lonavala where ticket is valid from.
However i understand what you're saying.
How about if we just boarded the train with our original printed out ticket(which i am in possession of now) and sat anywhere where a seat was free. Of course we will try to board at coach our reservation is at. A1.

was even thinking emailing someone "in the know" at IRCTC. Do you have any ideas re email addresses? Seems such an easy problem to solve. But as with the UK there are 'jobsworths' everywhere.

Emails dont work in this regard with IRCTC.
You can actually go about with the option you've listed. Board the train, find any empty seat and sit. 99% you will find empty seats in 2AC, but incase you do find it full, just get into the next coach which is 3AC. Highly unlikely that the TTE is going to de-board you on this count.

Regarding dropdown menu its uniformly designed for all trains/stations and can't be changed for a specific train/station where in some peculiar reason will be bothering (in this case, stations falling in same suburban network). Ideally short distance bookings are given less importance and as suggested by Mr. Raviraj, try taking first class ticket in suburban and travel or with this booking, try boarding at Neral and convince TTE onboard somehow (may be by telling that due to urgency you boarded some other coach or so)...

Getting from Matheran to CST for about midday on 20th January.
Want to try and do this the most comfortable way as possible. Any tips/advice please?

is taxi from Matheran to Karjat to get either Sinhagad Express (11010) leaving at 8am or the Pragati Express (12126) leaving at 9.20am. Both those trains have 1AC seats too which i can book.
Any thoughts? I've no idea if there are taxis from Matheran to Karjat and how long it would take and what the cost would be either.
Any advice appreciated.

Ive booked on Deccan to Neral leaving CST at 0700hrs. Will that be OK to connect with first Toy Train? (18th Jan)
On way back on 20th I dont think I can reserve seats on trains due to timings. Late atfernoon etc or too early in morning from Neral. We have seats C1/5(window) and C1/4 both confirmed. Whereabouts are those seats in coach- i'm assuming right by the entrance which is a pain i think.
Can I assume there will be plenty of local trains I can get from Neral to

Do confirm about the toy train services on the Neral- Matheran stretch which are non-operational during monsoon. I visited Neral a month back and these services were suspended. The stretch between Aman Lodge and Matheran is operational throughout the year though. If NRL-Matheran isn't operational, you can take the share taxi upto Dasturi Naka(which are available just after exiting the station through PF#2 i.e to the Eastern side). From Dasturi Naka, walk upto Aman Lodge station which is very close by and take a toy train to Matheran.

There is no problem at all then.
That would be the best season.
Do note that the toy train tickets are sold 45 minutes prior to the departure and are issued on first come first serve basis. Hence be at Neral atleast 60 minutes prior to the departure as there is huge demand for the tickets and additionally it would be peak season when you visit.

That suggests booking is not allowed for given pair of stations. Please try booking to a further station, say Karjat or Lonavala. The train has a halt at Neral so you can alight there.

As the error message itself suggests, the system is not allowing bookings between 2 stations considered part of the same metropolitan area. If you choose a station further away, it should let you book. You can then get down from the train and any scheduled stop including and up to the destination you reserved.

Also what's confusing is that apparently the Jan Shatabdi terminated at Karmali. I seen somewhere that it now goes to Madgaon. Can someone clarify please. Its difficult for a foreigner overseas to get the up to date stuff. Thanks for any help and advice. Not travelling till next January anyway but would still like to now as will be staying nearing Madgaon in Colva so if it does go all the way to Madgaon it benefits us.
