Since my last visit to the city, I always had a common question in my mind. How did Dhanbad became such a huge city from a small village? My grandfather's friend used to live in Dhanbad village(then Bengal). Coal field and Grand Chord were/are the resources yet how it got that huge chunk of population(specially from Bihar)?

Thanks for clearing a massive doubt that used to linger in my mind. Dhanbad might lose it's Junction status resultant of it's consecutive mistakes. It's economy too is going down badly. I hope it rectifies itself by the time being. A village that was cared and honoured in Bengal now has deteriorated by a huge margin under Bihar and Jharkhand curruption. :/

I doubt it will lose it's JN status so soon!
1. As far as I know ECR, it would not do anything on it's own unless a catastrophe happens. Then the actual blamegame would start. Maybe then alternative steps might be taken or I don't see ECR actually doing something unless it gets severe pressure from the MOR or RB. And ER doesn't any longer have the bargaining power it once had maybe an ER/SER persuassion may force ECR to act on the issue! Secondly a new line connection between DHN & GRD is in talks so even if DHN loses it's JN status now, it is likely to reclaim in the near future :)
Secondly Lets not talk about Bihar, Jharkhand and Bengal here as IRI is neither a place to settle interstate debates nor is it a site to discuss Corruption indexes and economic condition of cities!
Lets stick to rail talk only :)

After the tunnel work of Kolkata East-West Metro completes, ER and SER is set inaugurate new sets of daily, weekly; intercities and long distance trains. Clarifying the surveys, the zones are going to connect developing cities/towns satisfying the needs. Which one do you think is developing and fortune to get new connectivity to Kolkata. Tatanagar Junction under Chakradharpur division of SER to soon have support for Bengali language in it's premises. DRM CKP on Sunday morning reflecting by a survey decided to include Bengali language in Tatanagar and few more stations. "There is huge Bengali population living in the Steel City employed. When they have to talk in Hindi to others, why can't we extend support for them. Being Indians, it is our prime duty to represent every dominating regional culture beside the national one. Jamshedpur is surrounded by Bengal from North and eastern side. It is very near to upcoming industrial city of Purulia and famous Kharagpur of West Bengal. This will let a better share of views among people.",
said DRM CKP.
Train Announcements, Station Name Boards and Premises Boards will have Bengali included as 3rd Language.
Beside Tatanagar, Chandil under Adra division will have inclusion of Bengali language.

Shame on ER for snatching ECR train
KOLKATA: DRM HWH(DR. R. BADRINARAYAN) on a special meeting has raised the issue regarding parmanent diversion of 12019/20. The prestigious and only Shatabdi express of Eastern Railway is in danger passing over flames of Jharia coal fields near Dhanbad of Jharkhand. Every time the train snails through the region, the control room has a horror film being played.
DRM has asked the board to divert its route after Asansol via Joychandi Pahar-Purulia-Ranchi section falling under Adra and Ranchi division, increasing the mean speed and reducing time. He said this will be a equilibrium process as the train would miss few important stations but on the other side cherish many demands of the diverted region. We need to take a quick step
rather than foolish usual inspections.

IPTN route is yet to be completed.. IPTN , CHAS has no platforms and amenities presently. So passenger trains can't run. Track upgrade will complete soon and then Rajdhani will start running.

Route yet to be completed ? There is already a route and RAJDHANI will have a non stop ADRA-BKSC run, no need to have platforms at any station in between for Rajdhani.

58015/16 is soon going to start from Purulia after yard line completes. The much highly anticipated passenger from Purulia side people is finally going to take them to Howrah. As per a recent amenities demand, commuters wanted 58015/6 to start from Purulia station.
DRM KGP said that the train was numbered to run from Purulia but due to unavoidable conditions it couldn't be done. After the track base completes, the train will serve as Purulia-Howrah-Purulia Shiromoni Fast Passenger. Rake will be reallocated to PRR SM after addition of extra coaches and few improvements.
will give cheap but a fairly fast option to Howrah said DCM KGP.

So , now the criteria for priority is new/old status and no. of passengers ? I always thought if I pay for a Rajdhani/Shatabdi, I would get the service as per tag of the train and fare paid. This seems to be a new zonal policy by SER.

Not a new but a old good satisfying one. PURI and BBS premiums is given the exact priority as required.
All the old trains have been given higher priority boosting their punctuality which was a major issue till 2016. They carry a huge amount of rush and railway has done what they are entitled to.

Purulia-Adra route is way better in that case. You can get very light glance of Ajodha hills few miles before entering the city of Purulia. Joychandi Pahar can easily be viewed before entering Adra. Starting from Tulin, the whole route is very green and scenic. And yeah, I forgot about Adra, Bishnupur forest reserved areas. Bengali people or regular travellers on that route can describe you better.

WB and Bihar are the leaders, Orissa & Jharkhand are in mid level and Assam at last.
(1)- With several intercity trains connecting the major cities with the State Capital, Almost all of the cities on railway network, large number of long distance trains WB is number one. Historically the Railway development was oriented with Kolkata as one of the 4 focal points (other being Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi). Post independence too WB got boost during the stints of Mr. Gani Khan Chowdhury & Ms Mamta Banerjee
(2) Bihar is no.2 and fairly close
to WB in major parameters. A lot of Rly development has taken place in last Bihar especially in last 2 decades as most of RMs hailed from this state.
(3) Orissa inherited a section of HWH-MAS & HWH-CSTM trunk lines. Substantial new lines were constructed for the mineral rich state which continues to give a huge profit to IR. After creation of ECoR zone and with efforts of state govt, many trains were introduced and substantial capacity augmentation was done.
(4) Jharkhand inherited a section of HWH-CSTM rail line. But many rail projects are progressing as Jharkhand govt participated in state's railway projects by sharing project cost. This mineral rich state too give a lot of profit to IR
(5) Assam had been a distinct laggard at the time of independence, but a lot of efforts and funds allocations have been made by IR/Govt of India to improve the connectivity of Assam to rest of the nation and the North East states through a plethora of very costly but strategically important projects (thanx to the hostile neighbouring country). Most of the lines in the state of Assam are loss making, but IR continues to spend a lot to fulfil strategic national interests.

West Bengal, without any doubt. Here are some points to suggest this:
1. There are a lot of points that can be mentioned about Howrah(HWH) station from the available options for any part of the country to facilities, the revenue generated by this station etc. Apart from HWH, SDAH and KOAA(that maintains international train) should not be ignored. Other stations in he state like NJP, Malda, Asansol, BWN, KGP etc have also got a widespread Railway connectivity.
2. Kolkata, the capital of WB is the former Indian capital, one of the six metropolitan
cities and most populous cities in India.The city houses some major company bases like ITC, Britannia, Bata etc. The rural area has got developed agriculture sector which is at par with the other mentioned states, at least. The presence of places like Darjeeling, the historical city of Kolkata itself etc supports tourism sector of the state.
3. Education scene of this state has got premier institutes in the picture, like IIT, ISI, IIM, Jadavpur University, IISER, NIT to name a few. The sports sector of this states is again at par with other ones with Cricket and football being most followed sports. WB hosts international cricket matches and is also important football hub of the country. There are some major steel plants and industries in the Durgapur-Asansol belt that largely supports economy of the region.
