Guys I need some help. PLZ RAISE YOUR VOICE FOR THE MODIFICATION OF EKI-BLGT BRANCH LINE. I LOVE BLGT AND I AM A FREQUENT PASSENGER FROM KOLKATA TO BLGT. IT's time to raise our voice. Atleast run 13063/13064 daily. Like DOTL STATION UPGRADE SIGNALLING IN OTHER STATIONS. COMPLETE THE WORK OF PF2 in BLGT AND CONSTRUCT OVER-BRIDGE. Rph-Mldt-Njp section even the omlf-singhabad section were 2-3 trains are ran is electrifying. So,commission electrification IN EKI-BLGT BRANCH LINE

It was probably short-terminated at some point with passengers crossing the Ganga in a ferry and taking a connecting MG or NG train from Barsoi. Even before partition, this was the practice for a long time. The Hardinge bridge in Bangladesh was opened only in 1915, and the line north of it was MG while the line south to Kolkata was BG. Till 1926, there was no direct single train for end-to-end journey from Kolkata to Siliguri, with passengers having to switch to MG mid-way. Probably after partition, the same practice was followed, albeit completely within Indian territory till the Farakka bridge was built.

After the partition of the country its run was laid along a long circle. Its straight run from Calcutta to the north through Santahar and Parvatipur (now in Bangladesh) chugging over the Pakshi Bridge on Padma River was stopped for divide of the land. Then one half of the new alternate east bound route from Calcutta was marked up to Sahebganj in Bihar where the River Ganga (upstream of Padma) was to cross by Ferry Boats. The other half of the route was from the northern bank, Sakrigalighat, and it ran through north eastern part of the divided Bengal to reach Siliguri. This is the station where the narrow gauge Toy train awaits you to take you up to the picturesque hills of Darjeeling.
