I want to express my happiness at the extremely useful way in which I could use this site yesterday for reservation.
I needed to change my travel plan to a late evening train while already having an afternoon booking for 2 of us. The travel date is 4th May. Every train showed hopeless numbers against WL. I learnt 2 things from PNR forum:
i) that if I buy for a longer distance I might be better placed for a confirmed ticket

that selecting the right train can enhance the chances of confirmation.
Armed with this I searched for the SS Quota that is applicable and IRI interface showed me all the trains where confirmed ticket was actually available though the General reservation showed hopeless position.
I could get 2 confirmed tickets for AC 3 Tier under SS quota for an extra cost of Rs 300 for a longer distance of travel than required.
This interface is not available at irctc as well as indianrail.gov.in.
This interface is invaluable. I thought I should thank all of you for this.

"Looking at our dreams for a prosperous Bihar, we will give a bigger package than Rs 50,000 cr. This is my promise," the Prime Minister said, adding that he will make an announcement regarding this at the right time.

On the occasion, Modi targeted Lalu as he referred to a pending railway line of Bihar. "After the change in the government (at the centre in 2004), the railway ministers that came from here, halted the work and after we came to power we have again started the work. Let those who want to do politics, do it. But the people of Bihar have been hit because of it," he said.
Asserting that development is the "prime agenda" of his government, the Prime Minister said the country will progress if the eastern part of the nation develops... Development of eastern India is our mission."
Pitching for "cooperative federalism, he said development of the states was necessary for the progress of the country.
"Under the 14th Finance Commission, Bihar will receive Rs 3.75 lakh crore from 2015 to 2020 as compared to Rs 1.5 lakh which the state used to get before," he said, in an apparent response to Kumar's contention that the state would lose because of its implementation.
He emphasised that development is the panacea for all problems related to poverty and unemployment. Referring to the importance of infrastructure, he said the gas pipeline and rail projects which were launched would provide development and improve the quality of life of the people in the state. He said that if India has to progress, then the development of Eastern India is essential.
Bihar will have Assembly polls later this year in which a tough contest is expected between the ruling JD(U)-RJD-Congress alliance and the BJP on the other side.
Modi launched the Deendayal Upadhyay Gram Jyoti Yojana. He also and inaugurated the Daniawan-Bihar Sharif new railway line and flagged off the Rajgir-Bihar Sharif-Daniawan-Fatuha passenger train and Patna-Mumbai AC Suvidha Express.
Apart from it, he also dedicated IIT Campus at Patna and laid the foundation stone for Incubation Centre for Medical Electronics. He said the IIT should cater to state's development needs.
Modi also expressed hope that the Incubation Centre would help manufacture medical devices in India to make them easily accessible for all. Speaking of bringing "Urja Ganga" (river of energy) inaugurated the construction of the first phase of the Jagdishpur-Haldia pipeline project, which is expected to connect piped gas to homes in Patna. Friend, I am just a citizen not any party supporter. Whoever runs the government doesn't do us any favour by doing work.
Secondly, if we keep aside other very serious issues, we also notice that during 10 years of UPA people's earnings have gone up roughly by 3 times. Check prices of commodities and bank accounts. That is the truth.
I do not for a moment forgive any one for wrong doings - whether earlier or now.

Inaugurating a conference on "Dedicated Freight Corridors-Challenges and Opportunities" organised by Assocham, Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha said that despite several problems being faced in this the railways had "full confidence" of completing the in time. He pointed out that the Allahabad-Mughalsarai sector of the eastern corridor would be completed faster.
The corridors would be managed from two centralized locations for which Ahmedabad and Allahabd had been chosen, Sinha disclosed at the event.

According to a Assocham's release listing the advantages of the DFCs, the Minister pointed out that the corridors would be utilizing the latest technology in rail transportation enabling average speed of freight trains to be raised from 25 kmph to 80 kmph and then 100 kmph. The corridors would use high horse power engines for haulage and specially designed wagons, said Sinha.
Elaborating on this Hemant Kumar, Member (Mechanical) Railway Board and Adesh Sharma, MD, DFCCIL, explained that these dedicated high speed corridors would help overcome the high capacity constraints currently experienced on the western and eastern trunk lines and the four diagonals. They would improve delivery time of freight.
These corridors would also help reduce reduce carbon dioxide emissions by a million tons. Despite problems of land acquisition, 85 per cent of land acquisition had been completed in the eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) project. All the corridors would be completed by 2019. Total fund requirement has shot up to Rs 80,000 crores. The DFCs could take care of 800 billion ton-kms of traffic. They would provide guaranteed transit time for freight delivery, said Adesh Sharma.
It was also revealed that the earlier idea of 150km on both sides of the corridors would be reserved for industrial location but due to land acquisition problem this has been reduced to just one km on both sides. The Railway Research and Development Organisation (RRDO) had developed capacity to design and make in the country itself with the specialised high capacity and high speed wagons for use on these corridors, added Adesh Sharma.
The industry-railway expert meet also addressed growing opportunity for Indian enterprise in participating in the huge requirements of high technology items in the project in a make in India mould.

Railway Station. Boxes containing the rocket launchers were first spotted by passers by, who reported the matter to local police authorities in Shahbad.
Military bomb-disposal teams from Ambala were requisitioned to help safely remove the rockets. Following this, police and GRP patrols were called in to conduct an elaborate search to sanitize the railway track in order to allow for resumption of train services.
The superintendent of police at Kurukshetra, Simardeep Singh said rail traffic, including onward movement of the Kalka-New Delhi Shatabdi Express, was resumed after the patrols confirmed that there was no further threat. For many in Haryana, the recovery of rockets and launchers near Shahbad, came as a distressing reminder of the February 2007 Samjhauta Express Bombing, in which 67 passengers, including many Pakistan nationals, were killed.
In the present instance, an FIR has now been registered against unknown culprits at the GRP Police Station in Shahbad.

New Delhi, July 22 (IANS): The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) on Wednesday said it has introduced e-catering in 1,356 trains without pantry car.
Started in September 2014 in 14 trains on a trial basis, IRCTC has so far delivered 6,000 meals in various trains all over the country, it said in a statement.
Of the 6,000 meals delivered, only 350 meals were fast food while the rest were traditional Indian cuisine.

Can be helpful for the passengers coming from Assam. First dedicated connectivity in between Guwahati and NJP- two most important sectors of the North-East India. Though there are plenty of trains in between these two cities, they are all long distance trains; hence could be problematic for the available quota as well as punctuality issue. This train will solve the problem. Also a new route has been proposed here. This new route also could be useful.

This TT from GHY to SCL is all right, not too aggressive.
LMG-SCL 5 hours is achievable according to inputs received during trials. GHY-SCL 8.5 hours is what Railways is aiming at also.
Some special train has covered NFG-SCL in one and half hours too without stop.
Only issue is because Kanchenjunga is getting extended to SCL, whether the timings of the

Thanks for the input. See, I am not too much knowledgeable of that entire section. Bit research by looking into other train's trend and some names I heard like Dhupguri, Tufanganj, Jogighopa etc. So I would request you to suggest which stops can be removed. I can remove them.

देश में हाईस्पीड ट्रेनों के परिचालन के लिए रेलवे ने नई तैयारी शुरू कर दी है। रेल मंत्रालय ने हाईस्पीड ट्रेनों को 12 एलएलबी (लिंक हॉफमैन बुश) कोच के साथ दौड़ाने का प्लान बनाया है। हाल ही में दिल्ली-आगरा के मध्य 160 किमी प्रति घंटे की रफ्तार से किया गया परीक्षण सफल हुआ है। इसके बाद ही रेलवे ने यह निर्णय लिया है। रायपुर होकर नागपुर-बिलासपुर के बीच भी हाई स्पीड ट्रेन 12 कोच के साथ दौड़ेगी। तकनीकी तौर पर ट्रेन की गति को 160 किमी प्रति घंटे व इससे अधिक तक पहुंचाने के लिए मात्र बारह एलएचबी कोच के साथ ही हाईस्पीड ट्रेनों को दौड़ाया जाएगा। इतना ही नहीं रेलवे ने अगले साल के अंत तक देशभर की सभी सुपरफास्ट, एक्सप्रेस व मेल श्रेणी की ट्रेनों को एलएचबी कोच से लैस करेगा, ताकि इन ट्रेनों की गति को भी बढ़ाया जा सके। गौरतलब है कि एलएचबी कोच का निर्माण 160...

से 200 किमी प्रति घंटे तक दौड़ने वाली ट्रेनों की क्षमता के हिसाब से बनाया जा रहा है। वर्तमान में शताब्दी, राजधानी व दुरंतो जैसी ट्रेनों में पुरानी कोच की जगह एलएचबी कोच लगाने का सिलसिला जारी है। इसके अलावा देशभर के विभिन्न रूटों में चलने वाली गरीब रथ में भी एलएचबी काेच ही लगाए जाएंगे।
शताब्दी एक्सप्रेस को छोड़ दें तो वर्तमान में अन्य ट्रेनों की अधिकतम गति 120-30 के मध्य ही है। रेलवे के जानकारों का कहना है कि चाहकर भी पुराने कोच के सहारे ट्रेनों की गति को नहीं बढ़ाया जा सकता, क्योंकि इन कोचों की क्षमता 130 किमी प्रति घंटे से अधिक का नहीं है। इन सभी पहलुओं पर रेलवे की सात अलग-अलग विभागों की टीम ने सर्वे किया। इसके बाद ही इस अंतिम निर्णय पर पहुंचा गया है।
मेक इन इंडिया के तहत प्रत्येक वर्ष तीन हजार कोच
एलएचबी काेच का निर्माण अब देश के तीन रेलवे कोच फैक्ट्री में शुरू किया जाएगा। पहले एलएचबी कोच का निर्माण सिर्फ पंजाब के कपूरथला कोच फैक्ट्री में ही किया जाता था। लेकिन अब देश के अन्य दो फैक्ट्री रायबरेली (उत्तर प्रदेश) और कोलार (कर्नाटक) में भी एलएलबी कोच बनाए जाएंगे। तीनों ही फैक्ट्रियों के उत्पादन को मिलाकर सालाना तीन हजार तक एलएचबी कोच निर्माण का लक्ष्य तय किया गया है। पहले यह सालाना लक्ष्य 400 कोच तक का ही था। रेलवे बोर्ड के उच्च पदस्थ अधिकारियों के अनुसार एलएलबी कोच का निर्माण मेक इन इंडिया कांसेप्ट के तहत किया जाना है। एलएचबी कोच के निर्माण में जर्मनी के तकनीक का उपयोग किया जा रहा है। शुरूआत में जर्मनी से ही एलएचबी कोच का आयात किया जाता था। लेकिन अब देश की तीन फैक्ट्रियों में कोच बनाने का काम शुरू कर दिया गया है।
कोच के निर्माण लागत में आएगी कमी
वर्तमान में एसी श्रेणी के एलएचबी कोच की निर्माण लागत डेढ़ से दो करोड़ तक है। इसी तरह स्लीपर व जनरल कोच को बनाने में भी क्रमश: 80 एवं 50 लाख तक की लागत आती है। भारतीय रेलवे के वर्तमान एसी कोच की लागत लगभग 60 लाख है। इसी तरह स्लीपर कोच की कीमत 22 लाख तक है। कपूरथला फैक्ट्री के मैकेनिकल इंजार्च अशोक सिंगल ने बताया कि देश में एलएचबी कोच का उत्पादन बढ़ने से कास्ट में कई तरह के बचत होंगे। निर्माण लागत में कमी आने की प्रमुख वजह यह भी है कि अब जर्मन और इंडियन दोनों ही तकनीक को मिलाकर एलएचबी कोच बनाए जाएंगेे।
10 हजार नौकरियों का सृजन
एलएलबी कोच के उत्पादन को बढ़ाने के लिए सभी फैक्ट्रियों में रोजगार के अवसर भी बढ़ेंगे। इसके लिए विभिन्न तकनीक व गैर तकनीक पदों पर लगभग 10 हजार युवाओं को रेलवे में नौकरी का अवसर मिलेगा। जानकारों का कहना है कि भले ही रेलवे पीपीपी मोड पर अधिकतर परियोजनाओं को ला रहा है, लेकिन किसी भी रूप में युवाओं को रोजगार मिलना तय है।
पांच साल में पूरा होगा कॉरिडोर
रेल मंत्रालय ने हाईस्पीड ट्रेन चलाने के लिए पांच वर्ष के अधिकतम समय का निर्धारण किया है। इसी दौरान देशभर में प्रस्तावित छह हाईस्पीड रेल कॉरिडोर को भी पूरा किया जाना है। देश के छह कॉरीडोर में दिल्ली-कानपुर, नागपुर-बिलासपुर, मैसूर-बंगलुरू-चेन्नई, मुंबई-गोवा, चेन्नई-हैदराबाद और नागपुर-सिकंदराबाद शामिल है।

One is moving to LHB rakes. The other is 6 fast corridors. These are two different things. So all LHB trains wouldn't run as high speed. But all high speed trains will have LHB rakes.
