AKOLA KHANDWA GUASE CONVERTION

Nagpur:

Suresh Prabhu, Minister for Railways, and Prakash Javadekar , minister of state for environment and forests, have been urged to drop the plan to upgrade Akola-Khandwa railway line passing through Melghat Tiger Reserve (MTR).
The Indian Railways had finalized upgradation of 174km Khandwa-Akola railway meter gauge section on South Central Railway (SCR). Of this, Amalakhurd-Akot (77.5km) passes through hilly parts of MTR and its estimated cost is Rs.1,454 Crore.
Former National Board of Wildlife member Kishore Rithe has pointed out that if the railways follow the same alignment and gradient, trains will not run beyond 60 kmph, and also won’t connect villages from Akola, Amravati and Buldhana districts. “Considering both the aspects, people in this region and MTR administration had demanded diversion of this line outside forest area to maximize benefits,” Rithe says.
As per present meter gauge alignment, 25km of the line between Amalakhurd and Akot passes through Wan sanctuary. As additional forest land was also required to take up gauge conversion on this stretch, railways team in 2014 had explored an alternate route outside the sanctuary area. This route bypassing the sanctuary had been planned with the help of Regional Remote Sensing Centre, Nagpur. It would entail abandoning 51km of railway line in the existing alignment and construction of new line over about 80km.
Even as clearance from Railway Board was awaited on the proposed diverted alignment between Amalakhurd to Akot, pressure from local MP Sanjay Dhotre led the railways to decide on using the existing alignment and gradient to upgrade this line.
“We feel that this is neither in the interest of the people from three districts nor forest and wildlife. Existing movement of trains has killed many wild animals and reptiles, specially during monsoon and winter season,” he pointed out.
As this is a remote area, there are several incidents this train route being used to transport forest produce and wildlife derivatives illegally from the forests of MTR. This includes illegal trade of medicinal plants and wildlife derivatives like tiger, leopard skins, bones etc. Besides, regular forest fires happen in summer due to the railway traffic through 17.3km of core area.

Indore-Mhow section: Rail traffic after May 10
— By Staff Reporter | Apr 16, 2016 12:03 am
Indore : The train operation on the 25-km-long Indore-Mhow section would resume after May 10. Though the Commissioner Railway Safety (CRS) has issued certificate for traffic, rail linking work is delaying the operation.
After inspection and trial on March 21, the CRS gave nod to the

Ratlam division to run train with a speed of 90kmph. But train movement on this route could not be started because of some linking work.
Sources said that though the track was ready but platform no.2 and 3 of Mhow station could not be linked to the Khandwa side end. Till completion of this linking work, power (engine) could not be changed from one end to another.
During inspection of Mhow platform on April 7, General Manager of WR GC Agrawal gave an ultimatum to officials to complete the task by May 10. Resultantly, the engineers of the construction department are working overtime to complete the task within the time limit.
The mega block of this section was taken on February 7, 2015 for 6 months for gauge conversion.
But, the GC work was completed on March 5 this year. Before the mega block, over 20 pairs of trains used to run on this section and these trains were useful for commuters of Mhow, Rajendra Nagar and Saify Nagar. After completion of rail linking at Mhow railway station, the railways may resume traffic after May 10.

A guy booked an e-ticket through IRCTC on 10112 Konkan Kanya Express for himself and his wife in GNWL for MAO-CSTM on 25/10/2015 and both ended in RAC - RS6-31/RS6-31.
An elderly couple booked (availed SS concession) through some PRS in Sindhudurg for SNDD - TNA - Got the same berth S6-31 (SLB) and S6-32 (SUB). His paper ticket was different. It was smaller (like a UR ticket, but was a journey-cum-reservation ticket). It had no PNR at all.

RAC couple had PNR, reservation chart pasted at door showed their name, Indianrail.gov.in/pnr_status also showed their name when we checked through mobile internet.
I was on S6-29 (MB). Both the parties were firm on their stands. Both had solid proofs. TTE was nowhere in the train.. Nobody checked our tickets in the entire journey. None of the parties also went to find the TTE, as both were pretty sure and asked the other party to go and find the TTE - so nobody went.
Drama started at Sindhudurg and went on till I dozed off somewhere near Kankavali. When I woke up at Dadar, nobody was around - so cant tell what was the conclusion.
Please see this PNR entry /pnr/post/1527835
This is I and my spouse travelling in the same coach with CNF berths - 22 & 29
Pls throw some light on this.

Hi, it is not as straight forward conclusion as you have opined here. Konkan Railway is not a part/zone of IR. It has certain procedures, conventions and practices which are visibly different from rest of Indian Railway. One of these is a separate Quota for KR stations - this is denoted by QRS. Please read the above 25+ comments on this blog entry, before jumping to the conclusion and blowing your trumpet loud.

Secondly, if you want proof of such an event - the elderly couple in this blog entry is the proof of reservation without PNR (read my 1st blog entry)
