AGARTALA, Jan 14 (TIWN): 'Railway division may be setup at Dharmanagar Tripura in place of Silchar', said Manoj Kumar.
Earlier Tripura had expressed serious resentment over the decision of setting up of separate railway division in Silchar, ignoring the long standing demand of Tripura. Manoj Kumar said today after introduction of Trail BG train service between Agartala and Badarpur in 13th January, the state government had raised the issue of separate railway division and railway recruitment centre in Tripura at least for five times.
The issue has been discussed with Railway minister and

Prime Minister several times besides, Railway Board but it was turned down on the ground that railway-fleet, passenger movement and administrative set up did not permit separate railway division for the state.
About 398 kilometres distance between Lumding and Agartala has a pair of passenger train on regular basis besides service with Silchar and Dharmanagar, north-eastern end of Tripura; moreover, the state is sharing international border situating at the corner, which substantiate the demand of separate railway division. However that the separate railway division and recruitment centre for Tripura is necessary because Agartala is soon connected with Akhaura of Bangladesh and southern entry point of Bangladesh at Feni and people are solely dependent on railway.
The country is having 68 railway divisions and northeast has 5 divisions and all are in Assam. People of Tripura have not objecting the decision of Silchar Railway Division but reiterating the claim for a separate division in Tripura considering it’s locations and communication bottleneck. Earlier the Congress led UPA government has been disrespecting the people of Tripura on political choice keeping aside the welfare norms. On view of Modi’s LOOK East policy people of Tripura demand for Railway Division in Tripura .

BADARPUR, Dec 3 - Two express trains will run on the Silchar-Guwahati broad gauge route by Christmas. This was assured by Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, Karimganj MP Radheshyam Biswas informed The Assam Tribune.
“I have personally met Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu and submitted a memorandum to him and discussed in details regarding the importance of running some express trains on the Silchar-Guwahati broad gauge route for the greater interest of the people of Barak Valley. After the discussion, Prabhu assured me of running two express trains – Samparka Kranti Express and Kanchanjhanga Express – on this line by December 25, the Holy Christmas Day. The trains will run up to Kolkata and Delhi.

same assurance was also given to a BJP Cachar unit delegation which met Prabhu recently in New Delhi,” Biswas said.
During his meeting with Prabhu, Biswas had demanded immediate launching of the Intercity Express from Silchar to Dibrugarh, daily express trains from Silchar to Delhi and Chennai, the Janasatapdi Express and also the Rajdhani Express to New Delhi.
The Karimganj MP pushed this idea by explaining that such train services could soon be extended up to Agartala, Aizawl and Imphal.

GUWAHATI/SILCHAR, Nov 18 - After a wait of over a year, passenger train service in the newly converted Lumding-Silchar broad gauge section will start from November 21.
Union Minister of State (Railways) Manoj Sinha will flag off the 05691/05692 special passenger train from the Silchar Railway Station on November 21 at 1 pm in presence of Union Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and other delegates.
After completion of the Mega Block in the section and replacement of the meter gauge with broad gauge track earlier this year, the Indian Railways had started goods train

services in the section earlier. However, passenger services in the newly converted section had not started till now.
Confirming this latest development, Kaushik Rai, president of Cachar district BJP told reporters on Wednesday that he had a prolonged conversation with the Minister of State for Railways regarding the wish of the people of Barak Valley to see the first passenger train start its journey from Silchar. Rai also informed that other leaders of the party including State general secretary Dr Rajdeep Roy and former Union Minister Kabindra Purakystha also had discussions with Sinha urging him to reconsider the place to flag off the train following which, the rescheduled timing and location was notified. Earlier, the train was to be flagged off from Guwahati. “We had placed the popular will before the minister and we are extremely happy at his response. It will be a momentous occasion for the people of Barak Valley who were fighting against hope for 18 years for this day,” Rai was quoted as saying.
