Though trains coming from BSL side going towards DD do not need reversal at MMR but this train gets a reversal at MMR for faster engine changing process. While the electric engine is being removed at one end other end of the train is prepared to be attached by a diesel engine. The virtual junction at Ankai helps this trains to take DD route. I have posted the rail track diagram of the Manmad area. This train has a reversal at Manmad. Source of reversal info is that I have personally seen this.

No reversal at mmr , majority of times it takes straight route , only rarely it takes ankai bypass then reverse but its very rare

Agree with you that Manmad is a small city but it is a big junction and caters much more crowd compared to Nasik Road. Manmad serves for more than 60% of Nashik district, Shirdi, Shani Shinganapur, and some parts of Ahmednagar and Aurangabad districts. Again, it is a major transit point for Agro goods export.

12221/22 is HWH-PUNE Duronto Express. and it is not related to Nanded or CSTM Route in any manner.

if this map is correct, there would not be loco reversal at manmad as manmad can be approached from any of the direction from ankai and also one can go from any of the direction to ankai, but many trains do have loco reversal at manmad.

There is no need for reversal at MMR. it is practically not possible for Pune bound trains coming from HWH, NGP, BSL. kindly check the map of the station if needed.

At Ankai station near MMR, two lines converge, one from DD and other from NED. Hence from Ankai station, if a train is redirected via Original DD line then after arriving at MMR the train has head towards Bhusaval and if if the train is redirected via NED line then the train has its head towards Mumbai.
So when HWH PUNE Duronto arrives at MMR its Electric Engine has its head towards Mumbai end. hence the diesel engine can be quickly attached to other end and electric engine is also removed quickly.

Dhule has its own airport. Dhule airport is not functioning for passenger flights. Also Nasik Gandhi Nagar has not started plying flights hence nearest operational airport is Aurangabad Airport.

Your explanation is considerable, but this train has no official halt from BPL to PUNE that is for 16 hours. Also, MMR comes about the centre of these two official halts and also has relatively higher passenger traffic than any station in the stretch. This will also prove to be a help to devotees visiting Shirdi.

As frequent traveler of this train I would not classify this train as a crowded train. Hence, NZM-MMR GN Quota and then MMR-YPR RL qouta can play a significant part to increase the business of this train.

As far as connectivity of AGRA and GWALIOR with both Delhi and Bangalore is significantly better than that of Manmad. And also, I made my point earlier too that no official halt in stretch 16 hours in one of the busy routes. That is why I raised this question.

This ususally arrives on Platform no 4 at Manmad Junction(MMR). Platform no 3(as mentioned for this train) is primarily used for Mumbai bound trains only. If Platform 4 happens to be busy at the arrival of this train then it is taken to platform no 5 or 6.
