Entry# 9656 Reply Add Bookmark Remove Post ![]() Hi , Can you explain why there is a staggering 80 minute halt at Pathankot Jn ? The timings could be vastley improved if a serious re-thinking is carried out for this longer route profitale sector train Thanks @anon: Sep 01 10:10AM May be it's so people can eat!. I take it from some other feedback on this epic train that there is no pantry car. What's the food like at Pathankot. We'll be arriving there on Tuesday 22nd Feb 2011 from ADI on the way up to JAT, we might be a bit peckish by then. Great Circular Indian Railway Challenge gcirc dot wordpress dot com @Lester: Nov 30 04:51PM I bothered to look up wikitravel, there's a place called Makhan da dhaba near the station that is well rated. @Lester: Nov 30 05:39PM I also see that it says "yes OK food" so obviously there is a pantry. I still think we should be looking to get supplies in at Pathankot and probably Jodhpur @anon: Sep 01 10:10AM @lester It probably is because of non-availability of platforms for this train at Jammu Tawi, and also because of congestion on the JAT-Pathankot line... which would also include giving way to Superfasts. It is certainly NOT for food Lester !! Nice to see you here. good wishes to both querists.. I am sure other senior and more knowledgeable members would be able to shed more light on this long delay. But I am sure what I have said above is probably the cause... @anon: Sep 01 10:10AM I just checked up cursorily. Yes, It has been timed because during that period another train is coming down from Jammu Tawi.. Muri Express.. Mr Jain, HD, Jitesh, HEDL.. please check and confirm. I looked at Pathankot Junction and found that on co-relating the arrivals at the junction, Muri Express is coming down from JAT.. Good wishes to all @Lester : Peckish... Hey Lester, Pathankot is a major staging station for the Indian armed forces going up to the Indo-Pak Border. You can be sure we will get lovely hot 'paratha's' roomali rotis, veg curries and non veg curries... etc etc. Remember Napoleon's the Army marches on its stomach or some such thing.. It applies here very well. And if we are taking this train, don't worry about the grub part here or in Jammu Good wishes. @R Murli Dhar*: Dec 01 06:50AM thanks, Mr. Murli for the detailed and informed posts. I am not the person who asked the question, but even so, the subsequent discussion has added to my knowledge of the northern stations. Nov 16 2009 (11:12PM) Arunachal Express/5813back to top 3. The Great Circular Indian Railway Challenge Hello, we are planning to travel on the Arunachal in February 2011. There isn't a great deal of information about how reliable it is, though what I do have suggests that it's running OK. has anyone been down there since the line had the gauge upgraded ? I also need informati ababout Dhemaji and what we do if we miss the ferry, there must be some kind of guest house there but there could be over 20 of us so we'd need to have something worked out. Many thanks gcirc dot wordpress dot com Nov 24 2009 (06:29PM) Generalback to top 4. There are no tour operators involved in this, you'd be booking directly with IR, you can do it in any class you like, you can do as little or as much of it as you want. In short, you are the boss. Please view this post sympathetically, many thanks Mark Lester sir actually this idea hit up on me few days back as i planned to visit DIBRUGARH and LEDO for that purpose only bt backed out due to no knowledge on the present security situation. i asked for the same in this site but as you know it is used only to ask for PNR confirmation an mutual......... . i'll be more than happy to be a part of sunt a journey . plase provide any contact no or email id. so that me and more like me can join this trip. the website is at gcirc.wordpress.com, I am at mc_lester[AT]yahoo.co.uk we have a couple of locals on board already, but it will be really great of we can get some more. We're going in February 2011, so you've no excuses to miss this!. We've somewhere between 15 and 20 up for the mission so far. Most people are over 40. I expect some more youngies to turn up a bit later on but the experience we have in he group already is fantastic. oh i don't think i can wait that long. i am below 30 and from the eastern hills I expect the youngies to turn up once we're inside their attention span. We have a couple already, but as you point out, people under 30 dont usually plan 18 months into the future :D. This is a not to be missed trip, stick a reminder in your diary for about 6 months from now and then take another look. I promise you we'll have people on board so you dont think you're traveling round India with your father-in-law ;). do i need to register or what i'd love to get FEW mother-in-law ** NO ONE IS IN CHARGE ** so there is no registering, no fees (other than to IR which you'll sort out directly), no promises, no nothing.
