Adding insult to injury, three trains operated by the East Coast Railway (ECoR) and one by the SCR were allowed to pass even as the premium train waited for allocation of a platform.
“The train reached Kancherapalem outer signal at 6.10 a.m. Even as we were watching, Visakhapatnam-Rayagada Passenger crossed us at 6.15 a.m., Visakhapatnam-Secunderabad Janmabhoomi Express at 6.35 a.m., Visakhapatnam-Nizamuddin Samata Express at 6.45 a.m., and Chennai-Puri Express at 6.55 a.m.,” Ganapathi, who was travelling along with his family, complained.
A relative waiting at the railway station to receive them said that the train was initially listed to arrive on Platform No. 8. A little while later, the platform number was dropped from the display, he said. Just as the train was chugging in, it was announced that the train would arrive on Platform No. 6.

The biggest boon to Vizag is that it is destined to become Headquarters of the new railway zone SECoR. In fact, it is one of the 12 projects listed out by him for Visakhapatnam district. It will be developed as a mega city besides being developed as a mega IT hub. Besides Visakhapatnam, he also showered boons on Srikakulam and Vizianagaram, which can spur the growth of north Andhra region. The proposed new Greenfield International Airport, which is likely to be set up at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district, can meet the long-term expansion needs of Visakhapatnam International Airport. The Vizag-Chennai Industrial Corridor, which has already been announced by the Centre, will spur industrial growth. The talks with representatives of MNCs are in an advanced stage and are expected to attract huge investments, Mr.Naidu said. The other proposals which can put Vizag on the fast track mode of development include: metro rail, mega IT hub, electronics manufacturing centre.
On the contrary, Railwaymen and public representatives from Vijayawada have expressed shock of the announcement. The hopes of having the headquarters of the proposed South East Coast Railway (SECoR) Zone in Vijayawada have been dashed, with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu deciding to set it up in Visakhapatnam, they said.
Vijayawada Division was viewed by Railway employees’ unions and passengers as the most suitable for setting up the HQ of the proposed zone but the government thought otherwise.
There was speculation that Vijayawada would be chosen for the zonal HQ amidst contradictory reports that it (Vijayawada) might be ruled out as an option. The latter has finally come true for reasons which appear to be more commercial than logistical. Incidentally, the annual revenue of the Visakhapatnam Division, which is situated in Bhubaneswar-based East Coast Railway, is more than double that of the Vijayawada division.
Coming to logistics, Visakhapatnam is no match to Vijayawada division. The number of trains (both passenger and freight) that pass through Vijayawada station is a staggering 300-plus in a day. But this was ignored for various other reasons on which clarity is likely to emerge in the due course.
Divisional Railway Manager Pradeep Kumar denied having any information about the location of the new zone’s HQ except that he came to know of the speculation through the media. Reports in a section of the media, he said, said from day one that the zone HQ would be located in Visakhapatnam, as the capital was destined to be set up around Vijayawada, whereas a number of issues were to be sorted out by the Ministry of Railways to carve out a new zone.

BZA is no where near to VSKP in any terms
If number of trains passing via BZA is a criteria for a zone then SCR zonal headquarters would have been here instead of Secunderabad prior to bifurcation of AP.BZA is meant for only filling up the water for passing trains and change over purpose. BZA is no where near to VSKP in any terms.

How is Vizag such a great metropolis?
U keep saying BZA doesn't have trains and keep crying that BZA-NDLS AC should go to Vizag or via Vizag. Vizag is a city built by GoI. Bza is a city built by people. That doesn't make either city too much in need of trains in comparison with the other.

How did WAT people then travel13-14 hrs to HWH when it was SER ? Why didnt these argue that VSKP is in middle and should get priority ?
This is the indigestible attitude of grabbing everything the middlemen has generated which causes further chaos in everything.

The reason 2001 saw so many zones being created is the same. MAS, CSTM, HWH were British strong holds and hence have become zonal HQs. Pls refer to pre 1966 SR map and tell if MAS isn't centrally located

That's something I wanted to say.
CBN himself said zone for VSKP. It's not in the state list to do so and even then he did that. Still people here make statements that BZA getting capital is politically motivated.
As of me I've said I want zone at BZA.
I've also mentioned in one of my above comments that not many people in BZA are into this zone debate than the number of people wishing for it in VSKP.

Yes. Nice question. The very first day this committee toured it has said VSKP isn't fit for being a capital for a few reasons. But in the end there was no solid place that was recommended for capital except the recommendation that most of the offices be shifted to Vizag.
So, if not politics how is it that the committee stance has changed so much on Vizag.

I'm sorry. I can't completly understand the meaning of that statement.
BZA keeps trains on the bridge when platforms are full. That part I understood.
