NDL came into BG map in 1996 and immediately elections were held. NDL-GTL GC was completed in March 1997. Infact, GTL had to forgo 200 kms of track till Donakonda with the formation of GNT division. Until then GTL was the largest division.
In addition, in 2002 when new zones and divisions were created, GNT MP Rayapati was instrumental in getting the divisional HQ to GNT.
According to RTI , GTL (1.5 lakhs) revenue for the year 2022-23 is 30 crores whereas KRNT ( 5 lakhs ) is 21 crores.

What role reversal? KRNT is again being redeveloped in the name of Amrit Bharat scheme whereas GTL is not even getting washable apron on pf 1 and shelter in the entire pf 1. The rail restaurant is idle from the past 3 years. There are no takers for it even after conducting tenders for 5 times.

This is because there is no political push for GTL. Further, it's a heavy freight corridor which is why you will see 10s of freight trains all the time. Citing this as a reason all trains are being run via GY-PDL.
Forget getting new trains, if 1 new train is introduced, 3 trains will be diverted or cancelled. Such is the sorry state of affairs in Guntakal. When PDL-GY line was laid , Venkatadri & SBC-KCG were hurriedly diverted via the new line. In fact, the KCG-SBC train met up with an accident and nearly 25 people were killed. But now, the zonal authorities are not waking up from their deep slumber to divert Prasanti / Nilayam, MYS-JP expresses via Khadarpet & GTL-MLGT by-pass.

Good news....Guntakal bypass line work started just a month ago and will be finished within in 2 months. land issues are sorted and railway officials given permissin granted only single line will directly link into the Guntakal junction from mallape gate.News published in eenadu.net

Pendukallu Gooty project is not part of Guntur-Guntakal doubling work. Proposal has been sent for its doubling but as of now no idea on its fate
GTL bypass is added in Guntakal -Maddikera doubling work.
