Panvel to Roha comes under Central railway. Ms. Mamtha in her first budget announced doubling work from Panvel to Apta and in her second budget from Apta to Pen. In the last last 2 budget there was no fund allocation for the above.

U may be right abt that as i saw the doubling work last time i went just a little ahead of Apta.... But the whole KR doubling is a tough work i guess... They'll have to build another HUGE Karbude tunnel, A huge bridge like Sharavathi and all the rest tunnels and bridges... which looks a bit difficult...!! But let's hope for the best...!!

The Kerala and Karnataka Expresses
The KK (Karnataka-Kerala) Exp. was introduced in 1976 from New Delhi to Trivandrum and Bangalore, the train bifurcating at Jolarpettai. The train was later (1980?) split into two trains, the Kerala Exp. running New Delhi - Trivandrum and the Karnataka Exp. running New Delhi - Bangalore. The Kerala Exp. then split at Palghat with one portion going to Mangalore. The Karnataka later changed to take the Gooty-Secunderabad-Nagpur route. The Karnataka later ran with three different routes on different days of the week: through Renigunta and Vijayawada; through Wadi and Secunderabad; and through Wadi and Manmad.
The Kerala Exp. overlapped with the Jayanti Janata which bifurcated at Shoranur with one part of the train going to Cochin Harbour and the other to Mangalore. Later, these two trains were

merged to form the Kerala Mangala Exp. Later yet (1990?), a separate train to Mangalore was introduced named the Mangala Exp. (Nagpur-Vijayawada-Coimbatore-Palghat-Shoranur). With the opening of Konkan Railway, the Mangala was renamed the Mangala-Lakshadweep Exp. and extended to to Ernakulam (Jhansi-Nasik-Panvel-Kankanadi-Calicut-Shoranur).
Originally the TN, AP, and KK (Karnataka-Kerala) Expresses were three trains sharing the same scheduling slot and much of their routes. After the KK was split into two trains, the Kerala and the Karnataka Expresses and the four trains were distributed in two scheduling slots, with the Kerala and Karnataka being in different slots. Later yet, each train got its own slot.

So Ithink the current CSTM - CAPE Jayanti Janata is different from the one from NDLS,

By 2020, the Railways needs to procure 5,334 diesel locomotives and 4,281 electric locos, spending an estimated Rs 1,20,000 crore. Given that its production units are overburdened, the Railways has decided to procure locos through public private partnerships. The Railways also does not have the resources to adequately fund its massive capital expansion needs on its own, given a surging wage bill which has significantly inflated its overheads.
The Railway Board will soon finalise a tender, to be opened in a few months, for procurement of electric locomotives vis-a-vis a joint venture with the private sector in Madhepura in Bihar. Another tender for a similar diesel loco manufacturing plant may also happen this year. Together, the two contracts are said to be worth around Rs 40,000 crore spread over a supply period of 10 years.

This is why Bombardier, Siemens, GE, Alstom and EMD have all become aggressive about their presence here. Several cities in India are also constructing Metro rail system, which opens up an additional market for these companies which manufacture coaches, locomotives, signalling systems, etc.
Bombardier for instance has set up a new railway vehicle manufacturing site at Savli, Vadodara, Gujarat.
GE India has announced plans to set up a facility that will also manufacture diesel locomotives in Maharashtra with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore.
"We are targeting India. We will participate in the tender to be floated soon by the Indian Railways for 1,000 electric locomotives. We are willing to offer 10% cheaper rates than other companies," Alstom's locomotive platform director Jean-Marc Tessier

had said in an interview earlier in France.
While EMD has been a long-standing technology partner for diesel locomotives with the Railways, Siemens too plans to cash in on the opportunity.

Another Trip Page from the Konkan Belt…….

My relatives had come down to my Panaji Residence for the holidays. It was then that we planned a two day trip to Murudeshwar, Mookambika, Udupi, Dharmasthala & Subramanya…

Back at office it was Audit time and getting a leave sanctioned was really tough. But God was gracious. Having readied everything for Audit and the CA team getting satisfied with more than 75% of the papers, my 2 day leave got sanctioned late on Tuesday Night.

...
On Wednesday Morning, got readied and left home for Madgaon Railway Station to catch the Konkan King –12133 Mangalore Super Fast Express. I was tracking its current position with the help of IRI, KR website and IVRS. King was running one hour behind schedule then.

By 06.45 am, we had brought few unreserved tickets upto Byndoor –Mookambika Road, and entered the station. The station was quite and cool in the early morning hours. Where there is IRI, there is a way….. I went straight to PF 2 where I knew, the Konkan king was to arrive..

It was time for some RF. A whining WDP 4 lay tethered in the pit line. With no announcements, 12780 Vasco bound Goa Express chugged into PF 1, an hour late with its usual Gooty Shed WDM 3A. Though the announcements were made later after arrivial, it didn't get d desired effect.... An Extra 3A coach was attached to the train. The 3A coach belonging to West Central Railway is most likely to be privately booked as it was the last coach, even after the SLR cum Guard’s van. The same was detached at MAO.

The task ahead for the idle WDP was clear. After Goa Express left, it slowly wound its way to PF 1 after a few criss crossovers and coupled itself to the Extra 3A coach.

Meanwhile, the 3 coach Karwar Madgaon DMU arrived on PF 3 brimming full of passengers…..

To be continued….

P.S. Pics will follow later due to slow net connection...

I was fortunate to meet one of my classmate (sports personality) at MAQ station employed with IR. At that moment chart was not prepared and was about to prepare.
