Is there a way to book train tickets from abroad thru international credit/debit cards (mastercard/amex/visa)
I have tried makemytrip.com, and yatra.com both of which dont accept international credit/debit cards.
IRCTC website claims to accept amex cards but my transaction continuously failed to go through.
Have used Cleartrips.com this time but I am told this website too is going to stop accepting international cards since

I am using Amex cards for my transactions for internet booking and there was no hiccups. When entering for amex cards, you have to enter details of first name, last name (middle also if there), four digit number and the 15 digit card no, and the pincode. If the details are correct, the payment goes through successfully.

With internet bookings I presume you mean IRCTC website with an amex card issued abroad. I did try three times but the transaction did not go through. I even checked with my bank to see if there was an authorization attempt, cuz sometimes overseas transactions are flagged off as suspect. Bank confirmed no transactions attempted. So I reckon, its something to do with the payment gateways or IRCTC not accepting overseas cards

Any news on the reply from Cleartrip?
IRCTC still does not accept any int. cards. This is simply paranoid behaviour on their side especially during the money making season from frogien tourists, NRI's visiting India in DEC-JAN...

In a partially confirmed ticket (ie. one confirmed and the other in WL-3) can the unconfirmed passenger get the TTE to get them a seat against cancellation if any? or the TTE CANT allow travel even if he could accommodate the passenger since the person's name is not in the chart.
What would you folks recommend in such a scenario ? Should the unconfirmed person buy a general ticket and follow up with the TTE to see if any seat is available while cancelling the WL ticket ?
Suggestions please

Gentlemen let calm things down here since your inputs are valuable. Keep them coming.
A friendly banter is not bad after all. I was just looking to get a picture of how the whole thing operates and if my family travelling overseas would have any issues travelling on a partially confirmed ticket.

1. If the name of all the passengers are appearing in the chart of TE in case of partially confirmed ticket all passengers are permitted to travel but there is no guarantee of getting berths for WL passengers. They can approach TTE time to time for allotment of berth and may get priority as per seniority in the list.
2. If some passengers do not wish to travel and and want to claim refund is required to send the original certificate issued by TTE / Conductor in lieu of the same to IRCTC after filing online refund request .
3.

The partially waitlisted e-ticket holder where no passengers have travelled & wants to claim refund is required to file online refund request . It would then be forwarded to concerned railway and refund received from Railways would be credited back electronically to the customer's account used for booking by IRCTC. Cancellation charges would as applicable for Confirmed and WL ticket.
Hope, I am able to clear the doubt.

Yes quite elaborate, the only question is the big IF. If the names of both passengers appear on the reservation chart. I am not sure if it does, however some posts have suggested that it will certainly do. So lets keep fingers crossed.

Maximum Tatkal Charges of Rs.300 per passenger. I think you are looking for two persons. Generally, Travel portals are charging Rs.10 per ticket.

Does the TTE object/disallow travel if an infant (child upto 4 yrs) travels with an adult who has a confirmed ticket but has not declared the name and details of the infant while booking an i-ticket.
Is any id for the child required.

I think there are two different issues. First, the TTE if we suspects that a child is above 5 has the power (rarely exercised) to ask for some proof. The other matter relates to declaring the child's detail at the time of booking. If you ask me, it is not compulsory and has only been introduced as ''proof' for insurance in the event of a serious accident.
I am not saying I am correct.

My doubts stems from the stories of passengers who have been hassled at the slightest pretext (one passenger was asked to pay for the whole journey because his picture in the ID wasnt clear enough for the TTE). In the process of trying to grab the last available Tatkal ticket, the child's details were missed out on. So fingers crossed. Hope better sense prevails and there is no trouble in the long journey. Just wanted to double check if TTEs are prone to raising such issues and is there a legal requirement.
Thanks for all your responses

why not you carry the birth certificate or school ID9 which shows the age).
As per my knowledge it is not mandatory to declare the name and details of infant child, but if the TTE suspect the age , then you have to provide the sufficient age proff( mentioned above).
Otherwise if you are confident that child is of 04 years , and looks of his age group. Generally TTE will not ask for the details.
But
...
, you have to be provide the details during booking , if knowing that he/she is also travelling, because it helps during any unwanted eventuality.

Mohit
